So which would you buy? was the question....
And all 3 picked the Brera, despite its flaws.

My appologies to you HST - you caught the flack after yet another Mod intervention warning people yet again to behave before anyhing has even been said this is not school after all FFS.
I think you are recalling the 147 GTA on that one - the brera was the one they took up with other cars and they each had to give a talk about why their car should be entered into a design...award.

I think HST is right I remember the Brera was up against the RX8 and I think a BMW. The ended up at Knockhill and tracked all three. The Brera was also slower than the others. But they all said if it was their money they'd by the 'Brera'. Chris, I didn't see the 147 GTA episode

Re: The Morning After Topgear......
As a huge TG fan and recent Alfa owner (who enjoyed the show BTW!) I am in no doubt that the three guys do love Alfas.
As has been mentioned above, when JC reviewed the 147GTA (against the Focus RS and Golf R32) - he, and the others, all concluded they would buy the Alfa (despite it being "loopy loo").
The Brera was pitched by May against JC's Audi TT and Hammonds RX8 - and again all three concluded they would have the Alfa.
JC is even quoted by name in some current Alfa literature of owning an Alfa as being a rite of passage.
TG is no longer a consumer programme, so viewed as pure entertainment it was always they case they would "have fun" with the cars (although I agree the constatnt crashing is boring now).
Like it or not Alfas have a reputation of dodgy reliability - I have seen threads from people asking about this and that you put up wth the niggly faults for what an AR gives you. This was something I mulled over before taking the plunge! Last nights show did nothing to dispell this - but as others have said any car thrashed to that degree would have suffered.
I seem to remember reading recently that Alfa had got the largest increase in sales in the UK recently - a 40% or so increase - so the brand seems to be healthy!
The 8C is on this weeks show on Sunday - and I for one cannot wait for that!

Re: The Morning After Topgear......
In the 147 episode they put it through its paces comparing it with I think a Golf and a Focus in a straight line and round the track. The 147 wupped the other two on the straight line race but didn't handle as well on the track, and in the hand of the stig was slower than the focus, but they all still said they'd buy the alfa...
Yeah TG slags alfas for reliability and build quality, but they always complement them, and always say that they are the ultimate drivers' car with real soul and providing satisfaction to those who drive them.
I get the same stick off my mates about my 156.. " ooh has it not broken down yet etc." but 90% of them has admitted to being jealous and wishing they had one! At the end of the day though TG slags alfas sometimes, arguably, unfairly I think they still say more positive things about them. In the episode with Jennifer Saunders one of the questions to see if she loved cars was "have you ever owned an Alfa?" her answer "yes, three!" was met with approval from JC.

be proud folks
I also almost shed a tear with the final comments but I still think Hammond should have been slapped for his crashing antics! The tow rope fiasco getting into the concourse made me laugh tho, the looks on the faces of some of the marshals and stewards was priceless!
