Wedding Costs.

Am I just a miserable old bugger ?

My daughter is getting married again, she lives in Seattle with her fiancée and is getting married in Cyprus where mum, the ex, lives.

Just had email from the witch, sorry, ex, who is organizing everything, saying that the cost is going to be £12K. To me this is madness, 12k blown on a one day pee up. Don't mind shelling out but I would much prefer to have a cheaper wedding and give her the rest to use on more sensible things, pay off loans, towards the mortgage etc. I haven't been able to speak to my daughter yet so don't know if she is aware of what mum seems intent on spending...........

It is her second wedding although to be honest her first was a no cost affair but I thought very cool, on a riverbank in Leavenworth in the Cascade mountains, so this will be the first to cost anything.

Anyone any views, thoughts or comments ?

Re: Wedding Costs.

Weddings are cheaper than divorces ...

(hate to say it but £12k is reasonably cheap these days ... especially when Daddy is paying!!!)

Re: Wedding Costs.

I do agree with HM, second time round she should pay herself.

Re: Wedding Costs.

So the ex is organising, but expecting you to pay the full figure?
I think I'd tell her where to stick it under the circumstances.

Also: Alfa-female - your avatar seems to be broken

12K !?!

Forget it. You've paid at least once
already, no? Sorry but what kid
expects money the 2nd(3rd 4th..)
time around?

I'd politely decline.

Re: Wedding Costs.

Naughty boys! (*whispers* Any good H?)

Back to the topic. 2nd time round - no, they are all grown up and have had a crack at it and your wallet once.

In the circumstances that you described of not splashing too much first time you might feel inclined to offer a couple of k towards the costs to help them all out. I certainly wouldn't want to be dictated to by an ex who doesn't even live in a remotely adjacent country!
