In need of advice
Ok, so I miss-calculated my finances and now I am going to be c£500 short on my bills next month, and about £100 after that for the foreseeable future.
Therefore, I need to come up with some way of making at least that extra £100 per month to cover my bills, and obviously it would help if I could make a little more on top.
I know I'm a t**t for getting myself in this position, but I'm just asking for your advice as to what I could do.

Sell unwanted stuff you may have on E-Bay, or car boot sales.
Work from home delivering catalogues/kleeneze/betterware type things?

Re: In need of advice
Hammy seems to have suggested the only viable things I can think of. I have been thinking about a part time too, just for interest, but there's not much else around in these rural areas, so as unattractive these may seem,......... when the devil drives.
Another alternative is school exam invigilators, these always seem to be in demand but they would be unlikely to fit in with the full time job and the amount of hours available at £6.50 are unlikely to be of much help to you.
Good luck, would like to hear of how you get on.

Re: In need of advice
Easier to save than to make extra. Is there nothing you could cut back on for the foreseeable? Sky or anything?
Any overtime possible at work?
For that first month, any chance of you talking to your mortgage company and asking them if you can miss one payment? If you talk to them before suddenly missing payments and going overdrawn, they can be quite helpful.

Re: In need of advice
I've got a car to sell which will help towards the 1st £500, and I'll cut back on as many of my bills as I can (sky, phone etc.)
I don't have a mortgage, or pay rent as it is included in my salary- I cannot earn overtime.
Fortunately, for 6 weeks out of 8, I only work 3 hours a day, and then a couple of hours in the afternoon every other day.
For the other 2 weeks I'm fairly busy, working anything from 07:00-00:00!!!

Re: In need of advice
I occasionally go to the local scrapyard and pick up car parts and flog them on ebay. I think I could make a few hundred a month if I took it seriously.
You soon get to know what is worth something and what isn't.

Do you work weekends?
Try a bookies, as a cashier, not gambler

Re: In need of advice
Another way to look at making £100 a month is to save £3.30 a day.
If you buy lunches when you work - take your own sandwiches instead.
Give up newspapers and magazines.
Give up alcohol (if you drink) or at least halve your consumption.
Only use your car when you need to.
Work out what money you do have each month after bills - take out each weeks worth in cash, divide it into daily piles and leave the house with only that in your pocket. You can "borrow" from two days ahead at max but if that leaves you with nothing for a day then live with it.
When I was young (30 years ago) I did not do this and got into a depressing spiral of debt - young family, 15% mortgage interest rate etc. Ended up going to the Benevolent Society at work (Civil Service) who were really good and not judgemental. I still juggled finance for many years but did learn that it is possible to live on not much money but still have a life.
Good luck mate - things will improve.
Paul.

Re: In need of advice
Talk to the people you will be unable to pay. You might be surprised how helpful some can be. Most are understanding as long as you let them know first. The key is to make the first contact and not wait until they contact you. Good luck.

Trouble is, doing what exactly? I'll just have to take a good look around town this week. Thanks again Mrs V!

Sorry, maybe I didn't make it too clear, go to Ladbrokes, William Hill, Coral or Betfred and ask about cashiering work at weekends. Shifts could be after 12 so your other job will have finished. Also they would be able to give you extra shifts during the week if you were available, we are always ringing part timers and weekenders up on the off chance they could do a few hours.
Good luck

Re: In need of advice
If you want to work, you will always find something, maybe not the most stimulating but it'll put food on the table and clothes on your back.

Re: In need of advice
Get a part time job for when you are not working in your current job. I have 3 jobs at the mo, not counting cook, childcare assistant, dog walker etc..when i'm at home

Re: In need of advice
Don't you have a gold Rolex Oyster that you can pawn ? I have always found mine to be very acceptable to my local pawn shop.
Talking about watches, I was in Brittany two weeks ago and saw a Patek Phillipe chronometer that I liked in a jewellers window. Unlike eveything else in his window it had no price but a card attached to it instead inviting one to come in and ask the price. I went in and found it to be secondhand and for sale at £12,000. I didn't like the dark blue leather strap so didn't buy it, but there was no doubt in my mind that the jeweller actually thought I COULD buy it.............which was very flattering !
