Armpit sniffer behind bars

A man who approached women in public places and sniffed their armpits has been sentenced to 14 years -- and 18 strokes of the cane.

The man who armpit molested women in lifts, staircase landings and in their homes was sentenced in Singapore yesterday.

The 36-year-old who is reported to be mentally unstable (duh?) was contacted after a housewife contacted police.

The court said he was likely to offend again.

A lot of stuff goes on like that in Singapore. Because it's such a densely populated country their perception of personal space isn't the same as ours, so a lot of the time guys get away with it. I think the excessive sentence is to set an example to others that it won't be tolerated.

It also happens a lot in Japan. Guys will go onto the tube and grope women. As they're all squished in together like sardines the women can't do anything about it. There's a name for them and I forget what it is, something Japanese undoubtedly.

No, it's not hentai. Hentai is mainly associated with erotic anime featuring young girls.

Had a quick google and it's 'Chikan' which means 'groper'.

That's in the west, but in Japan, it also means sexual perversion.

And no, I've never been to Japan, but I love their culture and language, even though I don't speak it.
