Re: Another Watch Thread
I like my seamaster too John, but it's been playing up for some years now (runs fast) and the bracelet is pretty knackered. Such a good looking watch though I will probably get it fixed soon.

Got it 2nd hand via another forum I use. It's amazing how much value the mid-market watches lose very quickly.
Nesh - I'll bear your offer in mind
That's a very nice watch

Re: Another Watch Thread
Why did it say you wont find them in shops???
I think what the article is trying to suggest, is that there are several watch brands that only exist as websites where the watches are advertised at massively inflated prices, and to be traded at heavy discount in street markets and from non-mainstream dealers which typically sell them at 15-25% of the online price.
Looking on the bright side, I'm 100% sure it's not a fake
Edit: That possibly sounded a little smart-arsed - it wasn't meant to.

Re: Another Watch Thread
My Seamaster Pro runs fast but is within the acceptable CSOC limits. My Chopard is nigh on spot on. My Monaco runs a tad slow. I must say that I am in love with my new Oris. Can't believe I've not considered one before. Excellent VFM. I've worn it daily for nearly two weeks without becoming bored of it

Re: Another Watch Thread
My Oris is busted
But the Constellation and the Day date both run fine despite being over 40 years old

Have you looked at IWC?
The IWC Portuguese is (IMO) simple and classy, they range in price from reasonable to plenty.
Also the IWC Pilot's watch - the basic one 3255-01 is simple and classy too, in a less formal way than the Portuguese.

Actually no, I haven't. My mate has one and it is a lovely timepiece. Must have a look myself.

Re: Another Watch Thread
I've just got my old man's circa late 50's/early 60's Omega Seamaster repaired for my brother who couldn't afford to get it done.
I wish I'd just offered to buy it off him now. It looks absolutely amazing. I am just kicking myself now!
I should have got a photo of it before I gave it back to my brother.

TZ-UK • Index page
I've bought a few watches via this forum before - may be of interest to people who like mechanical / automatic watches. Can't remember, but you may have to register before you can see the sales forum - it's free, and a good and helpful place to ask for or offer advice.

Re: Another Watch Thread
Notice one watch they do that is £80,000
PROFESSIONAL WATCHES™: Richard Mille Archives - have a look at that
Having said that, I read an article on the net (I'll try to dig it out) about a guy who had a watch made by a sole practioner watchmaker. The whole process took a few years, but the end result was stunning - a real, hand-built piece of art. At (from what I remember) around £20k, it was also a bit of a bargain compared to some of the upper end IWCs, Pateks and all that. Wish I could remember the name of the watchmaker.

Re: Another Watch Thread
This 121 Time is interesting - if only to get a comparison for a cost of a quartz movement at $29.00 to an automatic one at $369.00

Re: Another Watch Thread
cost of a quartz movement
It's impossible to compare them in terms of price - most quartz movements (other than a few esoteric ones by Rolex et al in the 80s) cost cents to make and supply.
