BTW, in reply to our 180 offer, he came down to 195

This place is not essential for us to have (we are quite happy enough living as we do) but it would be very very nice!
Sounds like 185 might be worth a throw if you like the place enough

Re: UK interest rates - up or down

A good friend is an estate agent and advised us to look at other properties by the same agent (which we have done and are doing so again tonight) which will hopefully give the message to the vendor that we have lost interest at his price so he may reconsider.

What is the average time for a property to be on the market? This one has been up or about 4 weeks now.

Good plan. Don't really know much about the average time for a property to sell in the UK.

Re: UK interest rates - up or down

Properties are not selling well at all in this neck of the woods, I know of houses in this area that are priced right, in good order and have been on for over two years, it's certainly a buyers market.

When I bought my place one of the considerations for me was " no Chain " as I had just returned from overseas and was effectively homeless. One hour after I signed the contract the solicitor 'phoned me and said that the vendor had nowhere to go and so refused to sign the contract. Spitting feathers I found another house, put in an offer which was accepted and then told my solicitor to tell the vendors solicitor what I had done. Ten days later I was in the original property. Did feel a bit bad about the second house I had put an offer in for but it was an inheritance sale so perhaps not too bad, and, in any case, you have to look after yourself, no one else will.

Afraid so VK, but it does make me sad to have to do things like that, why can't everyone be honest and up front ?

Hope you get your mortgage sorted, been following the story but not qualified to offer any reliable advice.

I think Acapulco Al is in the business, did you PM him ?

Good luck anyway, very stressful moving house, especially from/to overseas, got 3 T Shirts on that one !
