Re: Erm, just caught speeding advice
If you were going to get a ticket they would have had to have cautioned you there and then... you dont have to say anything etc etc.....so if they just took your name and details you are ok.

Re: Erm, just caught speeding advice
The probable truth is they think you were speeding which of course you were.... but they cant prove it.
A similar thing happened to me in North Wales on the A55

I've been told (just by some bloke in the pub) that the correct answer to the "do you know how fast you were going?" question is "I don't remember". That way you haven't said that you didn't know at the time of the (alleged) offence, but you haven't said anything that can incriminate you either.

Re: Erm, just caught speeding advice
Mate of mine was pulled doing over a ton on the M4 a couple of years back...
The copper took his details.....explained that he had no problem with his driving, indicating, distance between him and the car in front etc....but pointed out that he was driving well in excess of the 70MPH limit then let him go.
He never heard another thing !!!!....LUCKY SOD !!!
I reckon you've got away with it Eddie....

I find it amusing that people accept advice on all manner of subjects from "blokes in pubs".

Re: Erm, just caught speeding advice
He needs proof of you speeding, i.e. a laser gun reading etc. Thats more than likely why you got off scot free. If he has no Actual reading he could have done you for danergous/wreakless driving however unlikely when you are 20mph over the limit.
Count your luck stars!

Re: Erm, just caught speeding advice
Hi
What bit of road was it? University Way?
I think you will be fine - but I agree, don't admit to it regardless of what is said. That's how my wife got caught a few years back, in her nurses uniform coming back from work one night! And she always told me to slow down!
The reason Kent have diesel Skoda's is because round where we live - it's almost impossible to get caught speeding, in between the speed trap cameras, speed humps and traffic - you can only ever a chance to have a quick blast - i.e. you don't get much road to speed on... and that's why I don't think it will go any further.
Anyway - I thought you were driving slow this week to save on fuel costs

I agree it is ridiculous, but the one and only time I got pulled over, I followed this advice mainly because I didn't know what else to do and it worked a treat!
I'd been doing about 50 in a 30 (which is of course stupid and dangerous, but in my defence it was 3:30am in a sleepy town in Hampshire and at the time I was a 17 year old with more confidence in my driving ability than was justified!). I passed the entrance to the police station just as a panda was coming out, they followed but I had spotted them and so kept my speed down.
The PC asked what speed I had been doing as I passed the station, I replied that I didn't remember, he then asked me what the speed limits were which I answered correctly, and finally two more police cars and 4 more officers turned up to breathalize me (I guess it was a quiet night). It was quite clear to me that he wanted to give me a ticket but had no evidence at all, so he gave me a producer and sent me on my way.

I had come out of bluewater after going to the cinema, and as I was going to swindon today thought I would top up with fuel at Asda as they are cheap at the moment. I literally turned left out of bluewater and that bit of road was empty aside from one car, so I booted it to the next roundabout and then down the bit of crossways to come round to get fuel.
The annoying thing is, yes I have been taking it easy all week as come returning form Swindon today I have driven about 600 miles the last week. But after all that a familiar bit of empty road was too tempting

But, if you act like a smart arse, saying the things best things you can to get away with it, rather than being magnanimous, then if I was a cop that would make me want to do everything in my power to make sure you did get done for it, rather than just giving someone a talking to and sending them on their way.

Re: Erm, just caught speeding advice
Sh1t when that V6 roars the brain goes to mush...
Its easy for everyone to preach you don't buy a GTA to pootle to the shops. Most police are reasonable, I had a guy give me a lift when the fan belt went on my old 'vette on the M1 he asked how it went! and I was cautious about my answer, he went on to tell me that it is the people driving fast and dangerous they were after, he followed a car at over a ton for a mile, then two miles with his lights on before the driver noticed him, they tru. the book at him... The policeman said if he'd just pulled over and slowed down he'd have let it go..
And don't ever say "shouldn't you be chasing real criminals" 'cos that won't help.
Oh and don't do it again naughty boy

Re: Erm, just caught speeding advice
Ok here's the reply by a traffic officer. I'll let you draw your own conclusions:
"Police officers are classed, under the rules of evidence, as expert witnesses as to speed of vehicles on a road. Which means their opinion of speed is admissible in a court of law. The courts however require some form of corroboration to this opinion. This can be lasers, radar, another police officer, video etc.
That said, it is highly unlikely that an officer on foot would issue a ticket or prosecute for speeding without some form of speed measuring device. I've never heard of or seen this in my career.
What I have seen is drivers being reported for careless or dangerous driving in such circumstances - where the speed has been the issue. For example, a driver clearly doing 50+ past a school at 9am. I've also seen people prosecuted by officers following or being overtaken by a car (and no speed devices fitted to the patrol car). Although the speedo was not calibrated, the standard car speedo will be used to support an estimation of the offenders speed."

Depends sometimes you can get away with it and others they will go mad but when he doesn't have proof nothing really they can do.
Buddy was pulled before doing 60mph in the city in 2nd gear by the Gards in Ireland and they knew they couldn't do anything so they just gave out to him and left him on his way. When he stated the law back to them.
