Liverpool's Finest
If ever a band could be said to exemplify my (and their) hometown then it's Shack. They sing songs that don't know whether to hug you, buy you a drink or offer you outside
Heartbreaking, romantic and overwhelmingly optimistic (and all this despite their tragic/disastrous history)
One of the finest songwriting talents to come out of the UK. Intelligent, imaginatively arranged guitar pop.
I haven't got a lot of time for Noel Gallagher, but am indebted to him for making their last album one of the first releases on his label.
Shack - Comedy

Re: Liverpool's Finest
I think you'll find Liverpool's finest came to Upton Park tonight, and were sent packing with their tails between their legs....

Re: Liverpool's Finest
Shack are a fantastic band-I've seen them 4 times in concert.
The last time was in Oct '07 at the Liverpool Academy and they were excellent.
I also like their Pale Fountains work from earlier times.
A great Liverpool band.

Re: Liverpool's Finest
I've just found out that The Pale Fountains are doing a one-off gig tomorrow night(Sat 2nd)at the Liverpool Academy.
The head brother's and what's left of the original line-up,but I can't go and I'm gutted.
Pete.

Bummer
I'd heard they were doing something like this in their hometown but didn't know when. Can you really not go????
G'waaaaann
Messers Slegg - thanks for the info, but what did you think of the track/sound etc?
It's not a AO poll - just a recommendation

Re: Liverpool's Finest
Good grief - how difficult is it to pass comment on the recommendation someone's taken the time/inclination to share??
I thought posting music outside the "Today I'm mostly listening to to" thread might, at least, get a little bit more interaction.
Sheesh.......

Re: Liverpool's Finest
nice little tune jed. would've listened earlier but only just dug out my headphones (hell hath no fury like a mrs al whose evening telly hath been disturbed )
saw them at the move festival at old trafford (the cricket one, not the pretend one) in summer 2004 and they were excellent they've got that unmistakeable liverpool sound

For what its worth I think you did do right to post outside the 'Today...' thread.
But maybe at the time you posted the crowd on here aren't that interested in music - whereas had it been posted at a different time a different crowd would have been.
I also think its now easier for threads to get over-looked

Re: Liverpool's Finest
Cheers A!
Definitely right about the sound. I just think there's just something about them that commands your attention. Perhaps it's a hometown thing that makes me warm to them. But their "story" and undoubted songwriting skills promotes a certain amount of reverence
Thanks for restoring a little bit of faith

I think you're right Kevin - I keep strange hours unfortunately (for UK atleast).
I've just noticed my last 3 "threads" mainly fell flat on their derrieres
But Kevin, did you like the track????

OK - Interreaction.
I've just listened to it and I find and it's not to my taste in the slightest - It wouldnt do if we all liked the same now, would it?

Re: Liverpool's Finest
I last saw shack in leeds, they were being supported by a new band called keene, four people turned up to watch keene, including me and my eldest lad, they did five songs, then blamed a technical fault and left in a hurry, i can only assume that they couldnt deal with performing to an empty room...however i emailed their label and wished them the best as i thought they were alright and was the only person to buy their demo cd..anyhoo the gig filled up when shack were due and it was rammed by the time they got on stage ...they were amazing ..i have almost everything they have done including michael heads the magical world of the strands and their pale fountains stuff.....

You should have offered to manage them, before posh boy's inevitable demise into celeb-rehab

I love that album. Put's todays so-called "songsmiths" to shame (Coldplay, David Gray, Travis .... )
In case you hadn't found this little site,
