Where in the World is the best place to live?
Now I'm thinking from the point of view of a normal person, ie not wealthy or working in a job with a six figure salary. Just wondering, let's say for example a multi drop driver for UPS, how much better would he's/she's lifestyle be compared to a Van driver here in the UK?
I've never been to the USA, always had this dream that California could possibly be the best place to live, Ok, I'm guessing the house, garden, drive, car etc would all be bigger for the same or less amount of money but what about other factors like the government, taxes, working hours and conditions etc etc?
Anyone got any other countries in mind, if so what are you're reasons?

The best place to live is where you are content - you look around you and think:-
"Yeah - this is alright".
It can be absolutely anywhere.

southern europe, or the med to be precise. i can't think of a single place in the world i'd rather live
perfect weather
beaches on your doorstep
family-friendly
strong sense of community spirit
relaxed way of life
mediterranean diet
fantastic scenery
history and culture (i'm talking more barcelona than benidorm btw :
vast swathes of empty, open countryside
emphasis on happiness rather than wealth

If money were no object, I'd like to live in Monaco, as I love it there.
As money IS an object - I want to look at America, Australia and New Zealand.

Have to try it, before you buy it, on a personal basis I reckon. : What PaulR said. : I'm content here in Little Old Blighty, but if you are adventurous, scan the globe.

Re: Where in the World is the best place to live?
I love Florida, great climate, lots of cool places to visit, the locals are warm, friendly people (don't believe what some people say about Americans, by and large they're far more welcoming and polite than Brits)
Cost of living is reasonably cheap, and the way of life is pretty relaxed.
And I might finally get to see a shuttle launch first hand if i lived there

Re: Where in the World is the best place to live?
Right! Like Grand Cayman, not far from the Keys, but Oh! those tropical storms, and the havoc they cause. :Lovely place when nature is at rest though.

True, the storms do dish out a beating, but it's amazing how quickly the locals recover normal life again.
We'd still be filling out insurance claim forms for one set of storms a year later when the next stormy season starts!

Quite agree - Cyprus does it for me, offers all of the above but has the option to mingle with British if you want (and you don't have to if you don't want to).
Also Greek Islands, but not quite as established.

Re: Where in the World is the best place to live?
Have travelled extensively and find that rural France(south west) would be where I would settle, given the choice.
Nice people(the Parisiens give the French a bad name)
Fantastic climate(not too hot, just right in fact)
Great roads
Great wine
Local bakers and other produce, even the supermarkets stock fresh local meat, cheese etc
Beautiful language
Gorgeous surroundings
I plan to retire there, in about 25 years......

Re: Where in the World is the best place to live?
I'm with Acapulco Al on this. Climate, grub, cost of living etc. Also relatively quiet roads with loads of twisty bends.
Croatia hasn't been mentioned, yet.
Corfu?
Italy is too bonkers, but I do love it.
Portugal still retains old world charm in the North.
Wouldn't choose Florida - climate quite oppresive and too many bugs and beatsies intend on having a free meal on you. far too flat as well - so nowt to see.

Where is the best place to live, not where do you live!!
I would live in Milan. Or just Italy in general, it would have to be northern Italy though. Possibly up near lake Garda.
Having said that, I do like living in London. It is a very cool city.
I could never live in America.
