Does it matter if it's fake? It's meant to be funny not fuel for a debate...

Re: Mac or PC
I am a Mac fan - (doh really Paul?).
Not convinced by the air yet though. It is the sign of things to come - dispenses with optical drives and relies on wireless and will eventually have a practical, large and cheap flash hard drive.
If you have heaps of cash now, which I haven't, it is a nice toy and, apart from being thin and looking rather nice, it has nothing I want.
It is ahead of it's time but, until it's time comes and it has been developed properly it is no more than a pretty toy.
Paul.

The air is extremely cool looking and I have been waiting years for Mac to build something small and light, but I agree that it is more of a toy than a full spec computer (no DVD rom, no firewire, limited size HD, etc.). I still might buy it though since I wouldn't be using it to replace my office or home computers, but simply as a portable device when I am on the road....

Re: Mac or PC
I have a new Mac Pro 8 core with dual apple cinema displays.
I use it for professional audio production as its seriously fast and stable.
This is now my sixth mac in a row and I wouldn't buy anything else

Re: Mac or PC
agree with the comments on the Air. But the word is that a much higher spec one will be released in the next couple of months - so don't buy one yet!

Though I am a CALL specialist (Computer Assisted Language Learning) and put together a 1.5 million dollar Windows-based lab for my (old) uni, my personal computers have been Mac since 1988 and will most likely always be so. Much less headaches, much easier learning curve and the best customer service in the business.
I changed universities last year and will be getting a Core 8, a Macbook Air and a 30" Mac Display for a small CALL project I am putting together for my dept based on some of my linguistics research (thank goodness they are Mac friendly!).

Re: Mac or PC
I wasn't impressed with the macbook air at all.
I would definitely buy the macbook pro 2.6 over the air.

I guess I was just lucky - I had the GTA for 3 years and 50,000 very hard driven km and had NO problems whatsoever.

Indeed, as it's available for Linux, Solaris and Win.
Opera is weapon of choice for the mobi stuff.
Safari on the iPlod is okay for most things.
It crashes more than any modern browser
I've used so i'd prefer a version of Opera.

Re: Mac or PC

Re: Mac or PC
Gone in 2 minutes: Mac gets hacked first in contest
It may be the quickest $10,000 Charlie Miller ever earned.
He took the first of three laptop computers -- and a $10,000 cash prize -- Thursday after breaking into a MacBook Air
at the CanSecWest security conference's PWN 2 OWN hacking contest.
Gone in 2 minutes: Mac gets hacked first in contest
He probably got bored form hacking PCs

Re: Mac or PC
It must be like breaking into a car. No matter how many alarms and immobilisers you fit, there's always a glass window you can climb straight on in through.
Macs are no more secure than PCs in the same way that Alfas are no more secure than VWs, no operating system can be 100% secure and are easily hackable. Hardly surprising really seems as Apple and Microsoft employ hundreds of people on their security teams but they're facing an an army of millions of hackers round the world who do all their work for free, round the clock.
We all run (or should all run) security software but I've got no confidence in it against a hack attack - but then I comfort myself that they're trying to hack NASA and the CIA rather than trying to get a look at my holiday snaps.

Can only take comfort in the thought that you had to go to a malicious web page before they took control. Hopefully I will not get directed to one!
