I was going to suggest Autolusso - Engine Rebuild but £580? sounds like a bargain for a new engine!!

It might be worth moving this or posting in the GTV/spider or Engine lounge so more people can see it

No that is not a new engine that is a second hand engine supplied only with new cam belt kit fitted

A new engine supplied and fitted is £1,500 inc VAT

Ah ok, do you guarantee the 2nd hand engine?

Marie, that might work out cheaper than rebuilding your current engine....

Well the recon engine will cost you £1500 before fitting....
The 2nd hand engine which hasn't been opened up is £580 but has an new cambelt. You then take a risk with other problems that come with a 2nd hand engine....

If you repair yours, you could be lucky and get away with no bent valves and no bottom end damage. I'd take the head off, get it checked for bent valves and go from there

If your planning to keep the car as your toy for a few years I'd invest in the £1500 full recon option or look into the cost of getting your own engine rebuilt. If your plan is to just use the car everyday and then sell it sooner than later go for the second hand engine option. The problem with a second hand engine is as Rich mentioned it could have some internal issues which may become more apparant as time goes by as it may have had a hard life. Most twinspark units have been driven, as the characteristics of this engine is high reving performance. Despite having a new cam kit, it could be a problem child of an engine which has high oil consumption or it could turn out to be a gem of an engine. So it's a bit of a gamble. The supplier may not guarantee the engine itself only the cambelt kit that has been fitted. So if that were to snap again you'd be
covered. But if it were to fail through no fault of the cambelt kit etc you won't be. That's something you'd have to discuss with the guys at Autolusso.

It all depends on how much the car is worth to you, against also how much it's actually worth. Judging by what i've read via your posts you love the car. I would shop around a bit aswell. Give howard a call at Allitalia in Wrexham he may have some options for you. Either way you'll need to get the car trailered to wherever it needs to go.

Hope you get it sorted.

Cheers

Si

1/2 tonne of scrap

Make me an offer for the head-its just sat there in my garage getting in the way! I can weigh it and work out posting to ya if you want. I`m sure Autolusso can help-shame Haynes never commissioned a manual for our cars-they shoulda known at some point we were gonna need one lol!

It's Allitalia in Wrexham. Tel 01978 757588. Ask for Howard.
