cast iron manifold heat protection (JTD)

Hi Guys,

first: i don't have a EGT gauge (next month i'm buying one)!

But i have problems with the exhaust manifold (JTD 8V). I think my exhaust temperature is to high. The manifold is warped and whistles very loud (not cracked).

What can i do, to protect the exhaust manifold? Is it a good idea, to use heat wrap tape and/or separate the flanges (like yan.ko)? The opinions about that, are very different.

I drive daily vmax, often for several minutes (~4500 revs). I think this is the problem, but i like vmax :)

Any ideas?

greetings
Chris

The heat wrap holds the heat inside the manifold, so its temperature will be higher and more stable.

Thanks! I guess keeping on for 6 months is a good test for a remapped engine
Sorry about the engine, did you knew the cause? Failed water pump or coolant leak?
Head gasket went on mine, only issue is presurized coolant, holding ok for short trips and keeping and eye to the temp gauge, hopefully I'll be fixing it soon!
Cheers

Ouch... not good!
At least a 8v engine is common and cheap... My old 156 has similar problems, low power, much noise, two melted turbos and broken valve guide. Never knew if was a leaking injector, but the intake made a popping noise, so I guess it could be the valves too.
Crashed it running against a concrete wall, drove over a very dirty part of the road on a close curve... didn't had a chance.

I hope my head is ok, it's the same 20V head as 159/brera , cheap doesn't go on the same line with these!
