Tuning a 147 2.0 t.s.

Hi everyone i'm new to the site and I've just bought a 147 2.0 t.s, I really want to tune it but don't know where to begin can anyone give me some advice as what to do? the 2.0 has about 150bhp and i'd like to get about 200bhp is it possible without turbos or superchargers?

we would all like 200bhp

remap, induction, exhaust £500+ 25bhp increase if your lucky.

You can add about another 15bhp to that if you spend £500 or so on a set of C&B cams, so they you will be looking at 180bhp ish IMO. Any more and it gets expensive, as you need porting, gas-flowing etc..
I think 25bhp from a remap, induction kit and exhaust is a touch optimistic, especially as the induction and exhaust system on Alfa's isn't too bad to start with.

thanks guys hey I heard performance sparks plugs make a difference but this sounds a little too optimisic to me is it worth it or should I steer clear?

I wouldn't use "performance" spark plugs, as the Alfa already uses 2 top quality spark plugs per cylinder as it is. The same goes for most of the stuff you see on ebay, electrical superchargers, resistors +20bhp mods etc are all a load of rubbish.
Stick with the old tried and tested, and see what others on here use.

You could probably get nigh on 200BHP with about £2500 of engine work.

That is without any turbos/superchargers.

turbo/ supercharger cheaper then???, can't get a v6 it kills my insurance, with tuning I can get it over time a little slower, plus it could be fun

I'd say about £2500 is right on the button for 200bhp.

Nitrous Oxide is a possibility but risky and expensive to refuel. Plus I don't know of anyone thats done it before..

Throttle body kits are tried and tested, AHMotorsports are a really good Alfa race engine builder but they aren't cheap. Their throttle body kit might help you:

Neither would I, but it'd probably be the cheapest way (short term anyway until the engine blows up) of getting 200bhp..

But in all seriousness, it probably would be best to avoid NOS.

I had induction, exhaust, removed cat., and remap on my selespeed...

...15bhp max i would say

i'm not gonna touch nos, i'm not a fan of having compressed gas in the back of my car, but it seems that and exhaust, air filter and re map seem like the best places to start.

what happens when you take off the cat, do you get more power, is it legal, if it is'nt is there any way round it????

Go for a sports (high flow) cat where possible.

If you take the cat off you are producing high emissions and the car will not pass an MOT.

Also the car makes use of the back pressure from the cat so you may well lose torque if you are to remove it.

You will also get a "Motor Control System Failure" unless you replace the lambda sensor after the cat with a dummy one.

Are you sure this one has a lambda after the cat alfasud? I didnt think they all did?

EU2 engines have one lambda, I know that for sure. But I think the EU3 engines might have a second lambda after the cat as well..

Removing the cat or fitting a high-flow cat will help the car breathe better at high rpms, so instead of power starting to drop off at 6,500rpm its likely to carry on rising all the way to the redline, provided the induction system is up to the job of providing enough air in the first place.

Now then, without the cat and the back pressure it creates, there will not be so much 'pull' from the exhaust on the waste gasses until you get the rpms up, so you might notice that the engine feels a touch less powerful at low rpms.

if i was going to tune my alfa 147 2.0ltr t spark there is only one place i would go personnaly and thats auto delta if your serious about more horsepower i would consider spending serious money with the finest in alfa tuning they are no way cheap but they are experts in the alfa car

EU3 petrol cars have two (147 1.6 TS 105HP), three (all other TS's) or four (JTS, V6) lambdas. One or two after the precat(s) and one or two after the main cat(s) respectively. All 147s are EU3, so they have 2 or 3 cats and lambdas. akouzo has a 2.0TS which has 2 precats, 1 main cat and 3 lambdas.

As far as I know the precat lambdas control the ECU's closed loop and check for correct timing, ignition and fueling and the main cat lambda checks that the exhaust emissions are within accetable Eu3 limits. Therefore if you install a dummy main cat you only need to fool the main cat lambda and leave the precat lambdas alone to do their work.

If you add a turbo or supercharger and do not inform your insurance, you might as well cancel the policy now as they will not cover you
