Remapping a 147??

Hi I'm new to owning an alfa 147 JTD and have a question? I've found a place that will tune it from 115hp to 145hp for £250, do you think the additional 30hp will be noticable & if so worth £250?

Re: Remapping a 147??

Remap is the best thing you can do on a JTD-engined Alfa. I got my 2.4 JTD done and it is stonking fast now! My advice is not to use someone that isn't well known on here, too much of a risk.

I used Angel Tuning, however Red Dot in Watford are really good too (a bit far for us up North though..)

Also, Celtic Tuning are worth a mention and I would trust them.

Are you running the 1.9 JTD 8v?

Re: Remapping a 147??

Thanks for that. Yeah it's the 1.9 JTD 8V & on first impressions it's pretty quick as it is with a reasonable engine grunt but I've just got the feeling that either the engine is not putting enough down or that there is some sort of reserve power that is untapped.

go for it if you have the cash - get an undertaking from the supplier that they'll "undo" if you ain't happy

Care to name the company? If someone has used them before then hopefully they'll come out of the woodwork and give an idea of whether they did a good or bad job

Yeah, they are called Super Tuning based in Middlesbrough. I found them on the web and you simply type in the make, model and variant and it calculates the improvement for you. This is the link Contact the Super Tuning team @ Super Tuning

Hmmm.....for a 145 Cloverleaf, a claimed extra 20 bhp - no prices quoted though.

Re: Remapping a 147??

Seems to be £250 for any remap.. Also says custom to the car - I wonder if they do it on a dyno?

I reckon its just another tuning company, putting on the same maps as all the rest. How have they researched and developed maps for all those different makes of cars?

My bet is that they've just bought the maps, there's probably nothing wrong with them but they won't be a 'special' company.. Before you go for it BW, I'd have a look at some of the popular alternatives when it comes to mapping Alfa's

Red Dot Racing -- Braking Products OBD tuning Rolling Road

Chip Tuning VW, BMW, Audi and Alfa Romeo - Angel Tuning

Celtic Tuning - Performance Remap Specialists

They are all similarly priced to Super Tuning, and probably have a lot more experience of working on Alfas. My bet would be to use one of them..

Back on the road: Alfa 156 3.0 24v V6, Silver with red leather, Q2 diff, 17" GTA Teledials, headlights & inlet manifold, AutoDelta carbon intake,
SuperSprint exhaust, Dastek Unichip & FK coilovers - my 245bhp beast!

Gone but not forgotten: Alfa 156 2.4 JTD Veloce, Vela Blu, Angel 'mad map' & BMC CDA, Ferodo DS2500s - the fastest tractor in town!

Re: Remapping a 147??

Extra 30 bhp on 115? Thats over 25%, ie, a lot, especially for the money. Should be very noticeable so long as it is usable and don't have to rev the nuts off all the time.
Could be fine but a healthy dose of sceptism doesn't go amiss with these claims...

Quite simply, yes.

Good point, I would want to know if the tuner could restore the ECU to the factory settings if I was unhappy with the remap.

Re: Remapping a 147??

Thanks, those three company names will be useful..... maybe not the one in Watford though. I'll proceed with caution. I might get to a meet in the near future so maybe have some crack about it then.

Nah no pictures as yet... can't keep the thing clean long enough to do it any justice. It's a silver lusso on a 53 plate though. I'm starting a new job in Darlington on 2nd Jan, so if you see a skinny Dr Who lookalike out and about give me a wave.

Re: Remapping a 147??

I tested a jtdm today and it was the same as my mk1 147 jtd with a new bumper. Anyone know what alfa are doing I thought the JTDM's were six speed 150hp machines?

Would that be the Jon Pertwee or Patrick Troughton variant then?

I think they call the new 5-speed 8v "JTDm" as well, as it does have multiple injections per cycle arrangement that the 16v and 20v engines have, although it only has 120bhp. They've used the multiple injections set up to achieve better fuel economy rather than more power, it'll feel very similar to the 115bhp 8V JTD
