Re: Remapping a 147??

Glad you're happy dannyk, how does it feel to drive afterwards? When I got my old JTD remapped it felt like unhitching an invisible caravan I'd be towing everywhere!

Re: Remapping a 147??

That sounds bloody good? Does it feel much quicker? I've got the same car as you and it shreds tyres in standard form, it would be good to hear how you get on long term, but I do drive like there's no tomorrow!!

Re: Remapping a 147??

Presumably you've only got a 5 speed gearbox? I bet first gear feels really short when you boot it??

Re: Remapping a 147??

Sorry to be a bore with all the multiple posts, but I'm thinking of a Q2 diff being my first upgrade? What do you reckon??

Re: Remapping a 147??

first gear is very short but second is a hell of alot quicker, yup only 5 speed, i cannot recommend it enough.
pud237- thats an accurate description! its alot quicker of the lights now!hopefully it wont give me too much hassle in long term!

rhett71- cant give you any advice on q2 diff matey as the remap is literally my first upgrade, i was planning on getting coilovers but have heard bad things about them. so koni fsd and eibachs are the way forward according to popular opinion, shame they cost a bit, didnt really want to spend more than 250 but cheapest i can find is 550 all in.
nice cheap set of 17in alloys hopefully and im sorted.
to get back on subject, the car is much quicker now, and to gain that many horses for that price is a steal from what ive seen and compared.

im relatively new to the site, so any good advice on...anything would be greatly appreciated, likewise if i can help ill put fingers to keys and try give some positive input.

Re: Remapping a 147??

If my JTD was anything to go by if you were too quick back on the gas entering THIRD gear in the wet it would spin up the fronts

I just felt sorry for the people having to drive behind me

Thats the Angel mad map for you. If it ever went on the rolling road, you would see that the torque curve would be nowhere as smooth as a Red Dot one. You could tell that just by driving it. As soon as that turbo spooled there was massive torque, but then a fair drop off after 3,000rpm. I'm sure a custom map would smooth that out, and probably fine tune it to maintain the torque better further up the rev range, for the transmission's sake alone.

Still, it had 122K under its belt when I sold it and I never had any transmission problems besides it eating its clutch.. I just hope the new owner isn't one of those guys that are happy to put their foot down in 5th at 1,900rpm and wait for the turbo to spool. With the brand new uprated clutch in I reckon the gearbox or a driveshaft will be the first to go driven like that..

Gone but not forgotten: Alfa 156 2.4 JTD Veloce, Vela Blu, Angel 'mad map' & BMC CDA, Ferodo DS2500s - the fastest tractor in town!

You might want to look at upgrading your brakes first...
