Re: Chipping my twin spark, advice needed please

Looks good Harry, but why was the pre-map power line so wavy? That isn't normal!

Re: Chipping my twin spark, advice needed please

Make sure you rag it for a couple of days to get the car ECU sorted.

Isn't it great having power below 3000 RPM.

As Pud said the pre map curve is very wavy.. Not particularly normal.

The remap certainly sorted it out though

This has almost convinced me to get my backside down to red-dot, although I have been thinking about it for a while.

As soon as I have a spare £200 I will be down there.

Maybe it had a non-standard map on to begin with? Variator problem maybe? Or a dodgy MAF.. What could cause that sort of stuttering? Unless the wheels were slipping on the dyno's brake? Clearly not right to begin with, but it seems to have been mapped out.

The torque curve looks rather odd at the end...

I would have put the jaggedness to the MAF or injectors....

Re: Chipping my twin spark, advice needed please

We noticed the wavy line on the pre remap run, as well as the dip in air/fuel ratio around 6000rpm.
The guy at RedDot ( sorry I dont know his name) thought this might be a dodgy lambda sensor possibly the one after the cat, however as youve noticed it cleared on the remap so that didnt seem the cause, he or I dont know the cause though did suggest disconnecting the battery overnight if I felt it return.
The air/fuel ratio was corrected by the remap.

The variator was done at the beginning of the year when the belts were changed so i doubt its that. The MAF is a possibility, butwould the remap have cured an issue with it????????
Doesnt seem likely but I really dont know.

And yes, it is great to have that extra bit of power below 3000rpm.

The blue one...actually I've just noticed that the power and torque for the original run goes on past 7,000 rpm, whilst for the modified run they stop at 7,000 - which is unusual as I know the Autodelta chip increased the maximum revs...

Not sure fella, The rev limiter should kick in at 7200 post remap.

Re: Chipping my twin spark, advice needed please

The rev limiter does work at 7200rpm or thereabouts,
I errrrr....checked it, and it definately goes over the 7000rpm mark.

I can only assume when he did the runs he backed off before the limiter as he had reached peak HP and torque figures.

Do you need to use Super Unleaded after the Red Dot re-map?

I was booked in, Augusto asked me to bring it in with 95 in. Didn't go ahead with the remap in the end as it was for a car I was going to buy near Watford that someone else bought right under my nose.

So I guess 95 is still useable but he did say after the map you would notice the difference between running on 95 and 99 a lot more.

Re: Chipping my twin spark, advice needed please

Thaks Pud, my 145 has the Squadra chip and I have to use Super to stop it pinking. I'd rather leave the 156 (which does most of our milage) on regular if possible. I think for £200 I might get it mapped

Re: Chipping my twin spark, advice needed please

i normally only use super, however due to me nearly running out a couple of weeks ago and the garage i went to having run out of super the remap was done on normal unleaded, the guy at RedDot said there would be a small improvement when i resumed 'super' unleaded.

Hmmm looks good... does anyone feel the need to inform insurers? Is it undetectable?

Do go for a Titan chip, I had one in my 145 QV and I did not rate it.
Do they do them for the 1.4 engine?? And is it hard to fit? And where is the ECU located in the 146?

Sorry for the hijack.

And how to they react to 95 octane fuel??

Nope, I just don't like them.
I know they can be quick and economical and all that, but I prefer petrol engines

I can understand it, there is something about a nice revvy petrol. But the JTD will always have a place in my heart, even driving the 3.2 I sometimes miss that great big splurge of torque
