Remap noise
Seriously thinking about getting myself a remap ... just got to convince girlie we want to spend the thick end of £300 on making my car go fast!
Just one question left, will the remap affect the noise generated by the car? I don't mind a bit more of a roar but I don't be up there with the Subarus and Novas SRs with their dustbin exhausts. I'm after a wolf in sheep's clothing (or a wolf in an Italian suit) look and don't want to end up with a 'shouty' car.

Re: Remap noise
Didn't make any difference on the GT(noise). Absolutely worth it for the performance though!

Get yourself over to RedDot in Watford for a remap costing £200 - you can use the run home to evaluate it for yourself

Re: Remap noise
But they're the other side of the country don't have a mobile service.
It'll cost me a full day to get there, get the remap done and get home again + fuel and bridge toll. The price label is cheaper but all-in-all it's going to work out more expensive.

Re: Remap noise
as with Paddy, reddot, even if it takes a day to do it.
you will find extra benifits in sorting out the breathing, ie. alafa bad pipe work for intake, poor intercooler etc.
search the threads for more info.

Re: Remap noise
Didn't think Celtic did a mobile service, maybe I'm mistaken.
I've got the 16v JTD mjet 140bhp version.

Re: Remap noise
Call them to see what they can offer you...they have a nation wide service trough the UK.
I have driven an 156 1.9JTD 16v 140 remapped by them and it goes extremely well and smooth.
I am planing of changing the 8v unit in my car to 16v unit, the reason I asked you.
So please do share your thoughts with us after the remap.

Re: Remap noise
Will do, the 16v is a lovely engine as it is, but you can never have enough power.
Celtic have just quoted £360 for a remap! Think it'll probably be Angel

40% is excellent, and 10% off is better than 0% off.
Bit gutted, as I just replaced by front discs/pads with parts bought from the Stealers.

That is a shame The mapping prices are still the best IMO and that's before our discount.

Re: Remap noise
Myeaaahhh!!!!
16-hours in an it's a hoot. The diesel now drives like a petrol, 3rd gear now feels like 2nd, it loves the higher revs a lot more and the engine doesn't sound like it's complaining when you wind it up. Far more driveable right through the revs and it'll easily blow through the red line in 4th & 5th if you don't keep an eye on the rev counter.
The daily commute 20 miles each way pretty much pure motorway/ dual carriageway and I've never seen an average 58mpg before! It was crawling along in traffic about 60mph in 6th though! Just been on a site visit and I've got an extra 3mpg average.
All-in-all, well chuffed with the performance and the economy. The clutch does slip accelerating hard from low revs but I was told that is to be expected and to drop it down a cog before pinning the accelerator to use the high-end power rather than the low-end torque. It drives much more like a petrol turbo engine than a diesel.
And it's not any noisier but my gawd it's quick now.

Re: Remap noise
Nice to hear that you are happy with the remap.
What bhp and Nm are you running now?

Re: Remap noise
Quoted figures are something like 190bhp, 300+Nm. Might be pushing out slightly less because it's a 3-year old engine
But to be honest the numbers aren't important to me, it's all about the way it drives and feels
