Re: New boost gauge ordered...

dismantle it, remove the silly dark plastic cover, silver ring, remove analogue clock, cut out a bit of plastic with a blade, offer it up and bond in with car body filler from the rear.
then wire up with a 1k variable resistor to get the correct brightness on the illumination, and tap in to a boost pipe for some pressure.

Re: New boost gauge ordered...

Sounds easy enough - I did one on my old MR2 Turbo which was a piece of ******.

I'll get it bought and install as soon as I can - I'd like to keep my clock as I use it a fair bit, I'd also prefer to use the ari vent (theyre crap anyway) as it'll be less hassle to install and easier to remove when I sell my car as I have a spare vent I can just stick in it's place.

Do you ave a photo of best place to tap the tubing into at all please ?

Cheers - for info.

Re: New boost gauge ordered...

look here

http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/tunin...ct-tips-2.html (2.4 JTD FMIC project - tips)

on the pic of the top of the engine, follow the black boost pipe to the alloy elbow that sis attatched to the inlet manifold, I removed this and tapped it here.
That way its a good solid point to tap into, and its only an elbow if it ever needs replacing.

Re: New boost gauge ordered...

Cheers for piccy regarding installation.

Finally got the gauge through after getting sutck in post and GPO being closed when I went to collect.

I'm goin to connect the 12v ignition to the same wire my stereo uses - One assumes that I can connect the 12v lighting wire to the same stereo wire ?

Looks a fairly simple installation and fits into the air vent an absolute treat.

Re: New boost gauge ordered...

Completely agree with you re: positioning however I've never seen a decent fitting A-pillar for any car apart from a JDM one. All others are really baggy and loose fitting.

I host some fotos of mine but it doesnt seam to distracting at the moment - I'll be moving it if it takes my eyes away from the road.

Re: New boost gauge ordered...

I agree that the gauges should be in the line of sight but I hate pillar mounted gauges - I think they look ugly and tacky, OK for a track car but not for a road car.

For me I wanted to have the extra information on oil temperature and pressure and any gauge position has to be better than no gauge at all.

I'm actually surprised that companies like Autodelta dont have a really nice gauge install in the centre gauges - it would be easy for a big company to get twin gauges for each gauge position so you could have oil pressure/temperature, clock and water temperature/fuel
