Angel or Red Dot???
I am having a bit of a dilemma with regards to getting a re-map. I have managed to narrow it down to these two companies but which one do I go for? Angel are far more convenient as they can come to me but Red Dot have the dyno. Help please

Re: Angel or Red Dot???
Well I've used Angel twice and would thoroughly recommend them, however I'm sure Red Dot are good as well - have heard nothing but good reviews about them.
From what I've heard, it seems Angel are more 'hardcore'. Nige advised me that the remap he provided me would finish off my clutch - which it did (My second remap was the famous "mad map"). I already had the uprated kit and was expecting to do a clutch change at some point so this wasn't a problem. The performance is very good. Fuel economy has taken a bit of a hit however, but considering my driving style I'm suprised its as good as it is, still better than a stock 204bhp 330D driven by my housemate, which I easily keep up with. This is originally a 2.4JTD 10v with 136bhp.
Red Dot are cheaper, but I would definitely give Angel a call to find out if they will do you a better deal. Personally, a rolling road printout is not important to me but I can see that it might be to others.

Weekend toy: Alfa 156 3.0 24v V6, Silver with red leather, Q2 diff, GTA Teledials, headlights & inlet manifold, AutoDelta carbon intake, BMC CDA, decat pipe and SuperSprint rear box, FK coilovers, Dastek Unichip - my 245bhp beast!
Gone but not forgotten: Alfa 156 2.4 JTD Veloce, Vela Blu, Angel 'mad map' & BMC CDA, Ferodo DS2500s - the fastest tractor in town!

Re: Angel or Red Dot???
I would say red dot, as they are cheaper and you get the rolling road print. At lest if you have the rolling road printout you know where your engine was to start with, and how it is after the remap.

Re: Angel or Red Dot???
No experiance of Angel but I went with Red Dot. They'll look after you while you're there either via a lift into Watford (shopping centre or trains to London) or WiFi & Tea/Coffee while you wait.
Before/after figures were useful to me and helped in the conversation of what was required.

Re: Angel or Red Dot???
Red Dot, never used the others, but my car was not running right when I went, Red Dot did all they could to look into and try and sort this, you would not get that sort of service on your driveway.
Dyno is a great way to see whats going on.

Re: Angel or Red Dot???
Yep - Angel are more convenient in the fact that they will come directly to you and have remapped (+air induction kits) on 4 cars for us (each one at a very good price) but heard equally good things about reddot too and the service they provide (rolling road, print out etc).

Has anyone used Red Dot's mobile service? Their website says they will come out but haven't heard anything about it.

They will come out and do it, however they will not do any custom maps like that. They will all be standard remaps. They aren't very keen on doing them though. They prefer to check the car on rolling road first.

Re: Angel or Red Dot???
Cheers OA, they're over the other side of the country from me and it's a 350-mile round-trip so them coming to me would be very useful.
To be honest I'd rather go for a map based on driveability than a graph, the numbers are irrelevant when I've got to use the car every day. I'd rather test it on a real road than a rolling road.
Looks like it might be an Angel remap in the new year.

Re: Angel or Red Dot???
I'm sure Angel can sort something out for you. Have a chat with Nigel, I'm sure they have preset maps for this sort of thing. They are after all the most popular with people on this site.
The main advantage of RR is that you can assess the vehicles condition through it's output. I have seen certain peoples cars on RR producing a lot less than they should. This is a good way to guarantee that your car is in top condition for mapping.
The new Punto's are great for mapping atm. The guy's have been getting an extra 100 miles out of a tank alone. Not to mention the extra 39.2 BHP. (I can't remember the torque figure)

Not with their mobile service they don't.
The only one they have access to is the one in Basildon at Redline Racing.
Please enlighten me if I am wrong.

Re: Angel or Red Dot???
Red dot did mine and it's excellent. I have friends who use Angel and they say they are fine but are more expensive.
The thing I liked about the rolling road re-map is that they were able to tweak the map to suit car which you will not get with a generic re-map.

Re: Angel or Red Dot???
I had my Brera 2.4 JTDm done at Red Dot last week - very happy with the results and service. While I was there Augusto mentioned that he wrote the generic maps Angel use. So, apart from the convenience of them coming to you, Angel seems to be more expensive for the same thing, less the rolling road. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Lol! Last time I mentioned this I had a very snotty email from Nigel.
It is true though. Did you manage to get some nice Red * Dot stickers?

Chalk that one down! I've had all my cars rolling-roaded pre- & post-remaps - on the Saab it highlighted that the MAF was dirty, and on the Alfa it highlighted that the stock map wasn't quite stock & had been played with in the past. Each of these things would have remained unknown to me if they hadn't been diagnosed via the rolling road prior to each remap.
Red dot is my remapper of choice (irrespective of the brand of car).

Re: Angel or Red Dot???
I just came back from Red Dot (and have no experience of Angel). Guys know what they are doing and very friendly.
I liked the rolling road together with the remap service, as you can measure the actual change (Torque and bhp curves) in the car and makes the experience more interesting than just having a laptop plugged into your car (i.e. I found out my car, as stock, had 156 bhp etc... and could see the new curves after the job was done). Plus you are not paying extra for it, so it doesn't hurt.
