I want my Alfa to be faster!!!

I have just joined this site today and had a great time so far!

I have owned my Alfa Spider since April this year and I bought it as a little Birthday present for myself!

I love this car but as it's only a 2L Twin Spark, I seem to get beaten by the likes of VW GTI's and Honda Civic Type R's that Don't deserve to be faster!!!

What can I do to my Spider? I want to feel like I'm driving a real sports car! Maybe I'm asking too much out of a 2L but I know it has potential. I need a bit of guidance, there is a lot of stuff out there on the internet but I'm not sure what to go for!

Thanks

Re: I want my Alfa to be faster!!!

All depends on how much you are willing to spend!

Can probably get an extra 30BHP if you are looking to do the works! $$$

If you want to spend a little bit, 15BHP.

Average figures obviously.

Re: I want my Alfa to be faster!!!

Well, to be honest to beat the Type R you would have to do 1 of three things:

1. Buy a 3.0 or 3.2 GTV
2. Get the 2.0 Turbocharged by Autodelta
3. Buy a 2.0 V6 turbo GTV and get it remapped.

The 2.0 can be made faster without having to turbo it, but it won't be as fast as a Type R

Re: I want my Alfa to be faster!!!

Change it for the V6 model.
Instant performance upgrade

Realistically - get it remapped and maybe change the exhaust for a descent unrestrictive type. That should give you a bit extra to play with

Re: I want my Alfa to be faster!!!

Where could I go to get a v6 conversion or the best place to get stuff like that done?

Would I have to upgrade any other parts of my car if I do this?

I'm guessing this would cost a few thousand to get done?

Would I actually be better off just getting my 2L tuned?

I have a friend of mine with a Subaru who has done loads of stuff to his 2L engine to get to 550bhp with a 3.6 0-100kph!

I'd be happy with half that!!!

Re: I want my Alfa to be faster!!!

If you want a V6 it would be more cost effective to buy the whole car.
For tuning as said before autodelta do it but are expensive. They can turbo/supercharge your 2L(if you have deep pockets)

See Link
http://www.autodeltashop.com/index.php?cPath=30_84

If you had a V6 in the first place the capacity can be upped to 3800cc then supercharged. 405BHP will see off most things if you can get the power down

You can get about 210 to 220 bhp out of a turbo TS unit, I dare say you could get more but I don't thingk it would be very reliable.

To change the engine to a V6 means replacing the ECU and sundries - it works out quite expensive.

Re: I want my Alfa to be faster!!!

It would probably be cheaper selling your current car and buying a V6 - it just depends on how attached to the car you are

Re: I want my Alfa to be faster!!!

I would much rather keep my car becuase it's my 1st car! I bought it when I was 19 tunring 20 and I've had it less than a year so it's something I'm looking to keep for many many years to come! I just expected it to have a bit more power!

I'm friends with the old Brand Manager for Fiat and he has completely changed his Coupe into a beast and he hasn't really had to spend that much!

I guess it might just be worth me building upon the engine I already have and seeing what I can get it to deliver!

Re: I want my Alfa to be faster!!!

I think Autodelta do non-turbo tunning which extracts aabout 170 or so bhp from the engine...

Re: I want my Alfa to be faster!!!

Trouble is, it's a lot easier to get more power out of a turbo engine than a naturally-aspirated one. Hence your friends' Subaru and Fiat upgrades.

Re: I want my Alfa to be faster!!!

I wonder, has anyone ever done a 20V Turbo conversion into a Spider from a Fiat Coupe?

It might work out cheaper than getting the turbo kit from Autodelta, and tuning gear is a lot easier to find for the Fiat 20VT than it is for Twinspark engines.

bugger trying to get it faster, just smile indulgently and enjoy the ride as the hot hatch brigade drive their cheap arse cars into the ground.

I think they have - but is that any cheaper then fitting a 3.0?

Re: I want my Alfa to be faster!!!

Er, to reiterate, get a V6(whole car, not engine), instant transfer to different universe & cheap, no hassle solution. The TS engine is no great shakes and WHEN the cambelt snaps you'll be gutted ...
