Re: 18" wheels

no they won't. different bolt pattern: 5x110mm PCD (brera/spider/159) vs 5x98mm (147/156/GT).

What he said. Plus I don't think the style would suit the 156.

Yeah, and this alone prohibits them from fitting

Perhaps Alfa changed the bolt pattern specifically to stop people making the styling faux-pas of fitting wheels from the current generation of Alfas, to the previous generation?

Nice idea, unfortunately the 159's "premium platform" was to be shared with Vauxhall/Opal and they use the 5x110mm PCD.
Vauxhall/Opal then decided that the platform was too expensive and didn't use it.

Re: 18" wheels

My contact said that the platform was developed with GM, but cost Alfa an absolute mint to develop, but yes the 159/Brera/Spider wheels share the same offset & PCD 5 x110 with recent 5 stud Vauxhalls and Saabs. Likewise the Grande Punto has 4 x 100 like GM products too. ...and they share engines 1.3JTD, 1.9jtd, 1.8, 1.9 and 2.2 petrol and the V6 starts life as a GM product too. Still the upgraded 159 out shortly will start to get rid of these with new 1.8 turbo engines.

These new engines have a GM block. It's the head that makes them unique to alfa.

The 1.8 turbo... I hope there is one on the way!!

I know that they have brought the twin spark back for the GT and the 159. Don't know how it will cope with the weight of the 159 though?

Re: 18" wheels

1.8 turbo is definitely coming: different levels of tune, using the same technology as the 1.4 in the Fiat Brava, which of course will see service in the 'junior' sub 147 car. Proper Italian technology! And lets face it after the failure of the GM link, Fiat group is desperate to distance itself from GM and needs something to show itself at the forefront of engine technology.

Re: 18" wheels

Well yes....but again Alfa add more italian bits to it to make it more alfa and less GM. Apparently the V6 starts life in Australia, shipped to US whole, broken down to individual parts, shipped to Italy and rebuilt using some new Alfa bits.

The interesting bits are that for the 1.9/2.2 engines in the USA the ecotec engine can have a turbo charger or a supercharger, and it can be bored (I think) to 2.4litres. These are just bolt odd modifications but I'm not sure if they would fit the Alfa head. But it could be interesting....
