Hmmm Alfa 156 front suspension squeak

Hi,

have just bought a 1998 s Reg 2.0 ts with 45k on the clock but have noticed that the front suspension squeaks for the first few miles in the mornings. It appeared to be coming from just under the front footwells on the car. Any ideas for a solution?:

Re: Alfa 156 front suspension squeak

I'd recommend getting someone to take a look at it. I'm rubbish at identifying anything other than the ARB links! lol

Re: Alfa 156 front suspension squeak

A squek could be the wishbone bushes, usually the upper ones, quite common and my 2003 GTA started doing it a couple of months back. You can get them changed or a temporary fix is to grease them I think.

Anto Roll Bar tends to be a klonk sound coming from under the car, which mine is also doing

Re: Alfa 156 front suspension squeak

ok I have this same prob at the moment on my 2001 147 sele, jack the car up with the standard jack, one side at time until the front wheel just comes off the ground, this will expose the upper wishbone which is tucked away under the arch, give this a good spray with wd40, and also the lower one and the one behind the brake disk just to be on the safe side, be carefull not to get any wd40 on ur brake pads or disk though, try that for a temp fix.......................

Re: Alfa 156 front suspension squeak

my gt sqeaked for the 1st 10 minutes of use. sprayed the bushes back and front with a wax oil and problem has been resolved. Not a fix but temp repair as i am sure i will have to fit new bushes in the near future

Re: Alfa 156 front suspension squeak

I have had the same problem on my 52 156 1.8 plus a knocking, Advised to start with the cheapest (drop links) for the knocking and work your way up the cost ladder. As for the squeek Mine did it every morning when its damp leaving for work and going over the speed bumps at the bottom of the road. But dosnt squeek when the get warmed up Replace the Top Wishbone (the big aluminium one) will cure it i am sure, but i still have the dammed knocking. drop links replaced Top and Bottom Wishbones replaced and now the only thing left is the Antoi roll bar Bushes which i believe cant be replaced without replacing the whole bar . ohh joy

Re: Alfa 156 front suspension squeak

Status Quo on these Alfas.

Cost to change upper, lower, and drop links both sides at a garage is around £300 all in.
Its not always a good idea to do a bit at a time, as ball joints are involved and you will probably find the whole lots on its way out.
After all 300quid is not the end of the world.
