is it gonna cause problems if i de-cat
is it gonna cause problems if i fit a silenced de-cat pipe. Was looking at some other posts on here about the lambda sensors and needing to fit resistors. Wanted to get some advice on whether it will affect the running, idle and leaness of the engine, or should i leave well alone. Already replaced standard exhaust from the cat back with a supersprint, and i know that all you alfisti will give me some good tips. Thanks in advance.

I'd be keen to find out the best way to do this. I'm going to hopefully decat after my MOT. Best time to do init. hehe.
You do have to pish about a bit to sort out these lambdas after the cat.
I'm eagerly waiting some answers..

Re: is it gonna cause problems if i de-cat
Mainly depends if you have a Euro2 or Euro3 156.
On a Euro2 156 (pre Sept 2000 in Europe) the car doesn't care if the Cat is there or not.
On a Euro3 156 there is Cat monitoring going on, so the ECU will notice the Cat is missing.

mines a 99' on a V plate so presumably a euro 2 version, does this mean i should be problem free regarding sensors and resistors and all the other electrical stuff that i dont really understand ?

yep, on a '99 156 the car doesn't know or care if the Cat is there or not.
You will need to refit the Cat at MOT time though.
Use stainless steel bolts, nuts, etc, to make it easy to refit.

Re: is it gonna cause problems if i de-cat
thanks David, at the moment iv'e got a supersprint from the cat back. Have found on ebay de-cat pipe with silencer, a cybox, do you know if this is compatable with the supersprint, or do you have any recommendations. Think i'll call Russell at elite and see what they have available, always a bit wary of ebay

Re: is it gonna cause problems if i de-cat
the ecu has to see a permanently rich mixture for the second lambda probe, so you should provide it with 0.8v and it'll be happy....

Awesome! So it's not too difficult? MOT next month. Out with the cat afterwards methinks.

Best to ask them as I think their de-cats either fit the std system or their own.

Don't know why you would want to bother - any increase in performance is infinitessimal all you will get is noise - ask my sons!!!! But then that's why I'm called Meldrew! Good Luck :

Re: is it gonna cause problems if i de-cat
OperationAlfa im in Bow,E3 just a short run from yourself. Get in touch, either through here, or pm me maybe we could meet up when we both get a chance. Rob3rto, asked Steve at cybox and he thought they would be compatable but could'nt be 100% sure, although to my mind if the supersprint has fitted the standard cat, and the cybox de-cat fits the standard exhaust i would have thought that they both must be compatable with each other, or maybe i'm looking at it in too simple a fashion. Finally, Meldrew. whether the power gain is infinitesimal would be open to debate, firstly you would be removing a cat that is seven years old, undoubtedly full of soot and various carbons, thereby removing the restriction in gas flow, allowing the exhaust gases to exit quicker. As for the noise issue a cat does'nt silence the exhaust, therefore fitting a de-cat with a silencer as opposed to a de-cat without silencer should'nt have a dramatic effect on the noise levels and i'm guessing that your sons de-cats are probably not silenced. Thanks for the input guys.
