Anyone remapped a 156 2.0 TS?

Read a lot on AO about remapping and it seems that it is a 'must do' for diesel drivers.

However I have a 99 plate 2.0 TS 156 - serviced and looked after (albeit that the body is a bit like mine, showing it's age ). I suppose what I am after is a little more low end pull - if possible before the 3,000RPM - I wonder whether a remap could do this?

Anyone here have a remap on a TS? Was it worth it?

Yes and Yes!

No more lag effect below 3000RPM.

Pulls all the way through the rev range!

Red Dot in Watford did mine! Excellent service! Highly Recommended

Re: Anyone remapped a 156 2.0 TS?

I've heard as much as 25Nm and 17bhp from a 2.0 T.S. with a good induction set-up and remap, and apparently throttle response is sharp as a razor and low-down torque much better.

Thanks guys. OperationAlfa - did you just have a remap or did you do this with other physical kit changed? I am trying to avoid the latter if possible.

The map I did first of all. That improved throttle response/accelaration/torque/bhp.

That map. I could not live without.

Recently I pulled out half the airbox and stuck a GTA intake. This improved throttle response even more. But only really makes a difference at speed, Eg, Overtaking.

The standard induction on the 156 is very good if you ask me.

Now I've just fitted a CSC backbox but other than sound and looks I don't really think I've gained anything. I was going to go for a full system and possibly a decat, but the lambda sensors are before and after the cats in these cars so you need to use a resistor in place of the second lambdas to trick the system into thinking emissions are ok. But tbh, I've spent enough on the bugger in the last 2 months so it's unlikely I'll be doing that (in the near future).

The spending can get addictive I imagine

So far I've only managed to add clear repeaters to my 156 Just about within budget

Haha! Nice an cheap. But they do make a difference.

If you want a remap from red dot give them a call for a quote and mention that I told you to call them!

Spending does get addictive. I spent £600 on a brand new sports brake setup! And I've just spent £650 on a suspension overhaul and 60K service!

Ouch

Re: Anyone remapped a 156 2.0 TS?

OA's car is a 1.8 which now would quite probably outrun a stock 2.0 (as well as looking & sounding quite a bit better too)!

Another Red Dot fan here too (although I have a JTD, so it's chalk & cheese compared to the TS's).

Not so much on the looks, but yes it is quicker than the 2.0!

Haha! After that service I can't afford them for at least another month!

Re: Anyone remapped a 156 2.0 TS?

Red Dot are nice and close too so that seems to make them favourite. How do you convince a 3 year old that Daddy getting his car remapped is 'his' Christmas present

Don't suggest I let him drive.......!!!!

Nope wife's car needs 4 new tyres so they will come first then I can spend on mine without guilt in the new year.

How much did the remap cost from Red Dot?

Did they stick it on the rolling road afterwards?

They stick it on the rolling road before. Perform a quick check to make sure the car is in good condition and suitable for a map.

Then they remap and rerun on the rolling road.
You get all your printouts etc..

If you go for a custom map then this process can be repeated.

They will give you quote that is cheaper than all the other tuning companies. Guaranteed. Especially if you are a club member of this forum.

Re: Anyone remapped a 156 2.0 TS?

I was thinking of getting a remap done on my 156 2 litre, as well as the GTA intake and Performance exhaust. However is it a good idea to tune a car with 92,000 miles on the clock without rebuilding the engine? all car tuning books I have read say that this should be the first step.

Simon.

Yes, it will definitely improve low down torque, as well as the throttle response and power. As OperationAlfa has already mentioned, RedDot is a good place to get it down (they did my 2.0 TS.) You should also explain to them what type of driving you do eg. lots of cold starts, town driving, motorways or mixed etc if you want a custom map.

When you say performance exhaust are you doing the whole system?

I was looking into this but couldnt be bothered as it meant messing around with resistors to replace the lambdas after the cat. I'd say it would be worth tuning it at 92K if the engine is in good condition and has been well oiled etc... Most twin sparks I know in this condition do at least 150K.

Re: Anyone remapped a 156 2.0 TS?

BUMP!

Following on into this thread heres one: I have just swapped my Fiat Coupe with Symonh2000's 156 TS that he just mentioned.

The car has 97,000 miles approx and appears to have been looked after extremely well by both its previous owners. It runs and drives great!

Ideally I want to be able to keep up with the V6 156 boys out there, is a remap the best bet in regards to this? Simon already changed the intake for that off of a GTA so the only 2 mods I can think of left are the remap and possibly an uprated induction kit. (The exhaust looks great so I shan't be replacing that.)

What do we reckon? Go with a red.dot remap? Someone just claimed that it gives a 17BHP increase, if that's true then blimey that's great!

I can't see it somehow but if it's true then I'll definitely give them a go.

Hammy156 is heading down soon and if I can arrange to have it remapped on the same day he has his bits done we can convoy.

Any hints and tips on modifying (Performance wise only!) a 2000 2.0 TS will be massively appreciated.

Thanks,
Darren

Re: Anyone remapped a 156 2.0 TS?

i check out angel tuning, as they came over to belfast.

they were not able to help pre 3k rev's - he admitted there map took effect from 5k or so.

i would love a low down rev increase - watford is a bit of a trip tho.

Re: Anyone remapped a 156 2.0 TS?

Yeah bloody hell mate it would be for you, I'm a bit closer as only in Bristol myself.

If their tuning does the wonders it's supposed to at the affordable prices they supposedly charge then I'll deffo give them a go.

I was going to buy a motorbike but it turns out I'm not very good and no longer want one so I have a bit of cash milling about I can spend on performance mods for the TS
