6sp. gearbox into 147 jtd 8v

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all doing alright...I am back in Europe after a month traveling around the USA and Canada....where I also met some of our favorite AO members

Anyways, I am back and back to my precious bella.

I am thinking of installing a 6 speed gearbox from 147 JTD 16v 150bhp into my 147 8v...So far I think the conversation should go without any problems. I also have the Q2 diff. fitted to my current setup.

What do you think???

ps: since yesterday I have a new remap inside my ECU, to take advantage of the FMIC, free-flow back box, both cat. removed and an BMC-CDA 70-150 fitted....but more on that in another topic. I am thinking that the car is somewhere between 160-180BHP and more then 400NM

Nice project..& wellcome back.

Are you doing it out of reliability concerns? (400 nm)

Re: 6sp. gearbox into 147 jtd 8v

nope

I need 6th gear as I do travel a lot with my car...so it will keep the engine at lower rpm's (much better for the engine) and some fuel efficiency will be gained. In addition I am thinking that my top speed would increase as well.

I found the gearbox for 325Euro.

I am still with the original clutch at 128 000km's some 100 000km since the remap....still no sings of it giving up. So I might wait for another month or two and then while changing the gearbox I will do the clutch as well.

Re: 6sp. gearbox into 147 jtd 8v

have you located a jtd 6-speed box or one from a V6?

different ratios, I am interested to see how you get on as I wouldn't mind an extra cog on mine either.

Re: 6sp. gearbox into 147 jtd 8v

As I "said" in my first post, the box is from 147 1.9JTD 16v....the ratios I think are the same up to the 5th gear and then you have 6th

Re: 6sp. gearbox into 147 jtd 8v

hi there well i got a 16v jtd with the q2 diff fitted and a uprated clutch fited and well i will never buy one of them again (that the clutch ) i was told the power i was allready pushing out was on the max for the standed uprated one so i went to the paddle clutch and it jucks as you pull away slowly and with the dual mass fly wheel it does not help but i am looking at if you can fit the gta flywheel (that if the spline is the same)

The ratios are not the same, gears 1-5 are slightly shorter and 6th is quite a bit longer than your 5th.

From what I found on the net (italiaspeed.com) 1 to 5 are exactly the same, BUT they might be wrong...I don't know.

I found the the clutch is completely different on the 6sp. Box compared to the 5sp. one.

Re: 6sp. gearbox into 147 jtd 8v

Isn't the final drive different on the V6 box compared to the 16V JTD one... enough reason right there to avoid the V6 box.

The only word of warning I'll give you is that the 8v & 16v engines are quite a lot different, so make sure that the bellhousing etc lines up 100% before you start.

Re: 6sp. gearbox into 147 jtd 8v

Does anyone know what the standard clutch for the 6sp. box can take.

Mine for the 5speed one seems to handle the power very well.

Re: 6sp. gearbox into 147 jtd 8v

the problem is that right now I have about 170bhp and 400NM out of my 8v JTD.

So as soon as I fit the 16v unit (maybe next summer) it will be producing about 200bhp and 450-500NM.

Re: 6sp. gearbox into 147 jtd 8v

cool what have you done to it to get that out of it......
have you looked to see if the gta flywheel and clutch would fit because the dual mass fly on the 16v is costly . that the route i be looking at when the clutch needs replacing next time and the parts are cheap when you put the fly wheel in it

V6 / GTA flywheel won´t fit the crankshaft. You have to drill some new holes in the crank

Nope. It got already 8 or 10 holes in a circle. So there's no place for new holes.

1. larger FMIC
2. Both of the catalytic converters are gone
3. Free-Flow back box is fitted
4. BMC-CDA 70-150 replaced the original Air-filter box
5. New remap to take into account the changes made

ps: Soon I will be testing my car on a dyno stand so I will have exact figures.
