Remapped Spider 2.4JTDm - now the fun begins

With 5k miles up and the engine loosening nicely I decided a trip to Red Dot was in order to liberate some more horses and sort the sub 2000rpm torque dip.

What a revelation

Previous numbers 184bhp @ 3500rpm/260.1ft-lb @ 2400rpm
New numbers 225.3bhp @ 3300rpm/314.6ft-lb @ 2600-3200rpm

Now the car feels and goes exactly like it should - pick up from standstill is smooth and that torque curve is just

For less than 1% of the cost of the car it's added 50% to the enjoyment - now it doesn't just look it goes

If you're reading this then cheers Augusto - another satisfied customer.

oh you bloody massive bugger!

now im going to have to get that done!

question is; Steinbauer, red-dot or angel - hmmmmmm. Angel promise somewhere in the region of 240bhp.

weeeeeeeeee!

p.s. was the 184 a wheels or crank reading?

Re: Remapped Spider 2.4JTDm - now the fun begins

Most places promise +40bhp which is exactly what Red Dot delivered. The 184bhp was at flywheel and I'm led to believe (from a couple of sources) is fairly indicative of what the car produces. I wasn't after outright power from mine (if I was I wouldn't have chosen a diesel Spider) but a smooth progressive curve giving the push in the back feeling which is what it delivers - on this basis 225bhp rather than 240bhp is more than acceptable.

I've no experience of the others - Steinbauer looks expensive and isn't tailored to the car, Angel obviously come to you but were more expensive than Red Dot who provided me with coffee, a desk & wireless access while they did it - cheers guys.

Re: Remapped Spider 2.4JTDm - now the fun begins

Nobody could tell me that when I asked the question a few weeks ago so I've taken the gamble and done it - if you see me standing at the side of the road then you know I did the wrong thing.

Seriously though it's all down to them taking the 'safe' option. The latest version claims to have a 210bhp output so all Red Dot have done for me is optimise the curve and got rid of a couple of unexplained dips - suits my driving style and, IMHO, makes it the car it should be out of the factory.

Re: Remapped Spider 2.4JTDm - now the fun begins

Definitely a remap is the way to go.. Is that torque at the wheels or flywheel? I think their readouts are wheel torque and flywheel power.. All in all, 225bhp is good and definitely a 'safe' remap as opposed to a crazy one, especially as the power comes in so low means it will be very useable! Have you got the R-R printout, which you could scan in for us? I wonder what they could get out of it if they really tried?

You should go back for another rolling road at 20k miles and I reckon it'll have more power and it'll come in higher up the rev range, at 5K miles the engine is far from broken in.. You've got more to come matey

Re: Remapped Spider 2.4JTDm - now the fun begins

Yes, bhp @ flywheel & ft-lb @ wheels.

I'll scan the readout on Monday when I'm back in the office but as I said it's not crazy but it suits my style and makes the car as I expected it to be.

Before & after power - also looks like I've picked up around 5mpg on an identical 120 mile round trip. Previously struggled to beat 32mpg, yesterday managed 37mpg.

Less than Angel. Plus you get the figures before and after. I prefer this to "Quoted" figures. Also if your car has any problems, they will be visible in the test run.

You should manage 35-36mpg absolutly thrashing it & approx 38mpg in general use. I came back from the South of France on Monday sitting at around 100+mph on the autoroutes & accelerating hard. After 1010 miles the fuel computer showed average consumption of 35.9mpg.. My car shows 227bhp at the flywheel after being mapped. It's also nicer to drive from a standstill with no "turbo-lag". Not exactly a ball of fire but I'm very happy considering the car weighs 1770kg!

That gives me a benchmark then - leave on Fri to head down to Switzerland then South of France so I'll set Trip B and see what can be achieved. One downside to mine is that economy isn't as good with the roof down.
