Sorry mate if that's annoy you. I did have a smiley face to show that I wasn't too serious. But I just found it interesting to do something to trick people to see who knows the stuff. Let alone who is right.

Re: 8 PISTON Brake upgrade for Alfa GTA !

Ok. About my 330mm 2 piece kit I can post some photos when I find.

It is an old project I took out of my car more than 3 years now. But it was made
from Galfer 330mm rotors and my friend made alu bells for Alfa 156 and
Bracket for Ferrari Maranelo calipers and these Galfer rotors.

The Galfer 330mm drilled rotors are very light and can be used with Marenelo calipers, because they have the same pad depth.

But you can not use the 330 drilled rotors from Galfer on Alfa Big(330)
calipers because of different pad depth.

For stock Alfa Big calipers can be used the Galfwer extreme line.
Are not so light like 330 drilled but are very solid and have the pad depth of Alfa Big caliper.

Thx for info! I hope you are able to find some photos of the two piece 5.5 kg discs.

How did they work if you don't mind me asking.. I am curious as to why you changed those light weight custom made discs so early? Was there a design problem?

I am asking because I noticed the photos you have taken of the Ferrari Calipers /Solid discs appears to be dated sept 21. 2005. Taken with a Canon Powershot S50 and run through Photoshop.. (The info is embedded in the file) So that was two years ago. The Calipers look alost brand new in that photo. Anyway if the photos are two years old and the two piece lightweight discs was on your car three years ago, that means the Calipers must have been on for atleast a year when the photos was taken, and that you only had the two piece discs on for a short period of time.

BTW well done keeping those calipers that intact! especially with all the high speed driving you do. I know mine were chipped after 4-6 months, but that must be the poor roads we have in Germany.

Anyway, looking forward to some photos when you find them!

brgds
Peter

Re: 8 PISTON Brake upgrade for Alfa GTA !

That is a fantastic work that my brake expert friend did here in Athens.
It is the first time that something like that have done on GTA.

Front : he removed the stock Alfa calipers with 330 monoblock disks.
Then he got 6 piston Brembo calipers 332 Brembo drilled rotors and designed ALU hats especially for alfa pattern. He used also the full floating nuts from Brembo to fix the hats on the rotors.

The results see on the photos. This kit doesn't exist on papers but is real. And the most important is fitted on GTA's stock wheels without any spacers. Enjoy !!!!!!!!!!

He did also fantastic and unique job on rear. That on another post..

Re: 8 PISTON Brake upgrade for Alfa GTA !

The weight of the 332 brembo rotor is 6.5 kilos and with the bell is 7.1 kilos . The 6 piston Brembo calipers is almost the same as the stock Alfa 330 caliper ( Different body and very light alu material for the 6 piston)
TOTAL WEIGHT SAVE
332 2 piece rotors with 6 piston calipers
- 330 monoblock disks 4 piston calipers GTA's
----------------------------------------
3 kilos less weight

And much more powerful !!!

Re: 8 PISTON Brake upgrade for Alfa GTA !

Since GTAFAN posted that he had 330x32mm discs weighing only 5.5 kgs. (the ones he can't supply any photo of) I have done a lot of research into the subject of upgraded 330x32mm discs.

Brake experts form Companies such as Movit have been really helpful. However they painted a very different picture then what GTAFAN does in regards to what is achievable in terms of weight, and also what is important in terms of safety and performance when designing a brake disc.

I was lucky to be given a lot of valuable information which under normal circumstances I would be happy to share with fellow AO'ers. However recent months have proven to me that a lot of people here on AO Tech forums don't really care about facts, They will seemingly read anything as long as it sounds and look impressive, or perhaps cause people to start an argument.

So instead of sharing, I will just post a Bling photo of a 370x32mm brake system.. and doesnt it look fantastic?

But I can tell you a small secret : the precat manifolds from gtv6 and 164 v6 are 2mm wider- in every pipe- than from 2.5 and even from gta original manifolds.

And one more important factor that no one said here is the weight.
Have you measure the difference? The original 3.2 manifolds are about
27 kilos!!! and the freecat about 7kgr. You save about 20 kilos !!!
And 20 kilos less where? at the front end of the car and just about
the lower part of the heavy V6 gravity point.

With this setup you place the lambda sensors opening the holes in the same position as the original. And as far with this no problems with ECU.
I was lucky to do that step by step and see the difference.
second step to remove the 2 Kat's of the original and place one bigger pipe with one big metallic cat.
I fact-checked the above and was very surprised with what i found. Under normal circumstances I would be happy to share with fellow AO'ers. Re: 8 PISTON Brake upgrade for Alfa GTA !

Above two posts are of course childish, - point being this tech forum is on a slippery slope, and people should perhaps consider what is valuable on a Tech forum..Not that I think my contributions are of special value, but at least I am not telling Porkies all the time..

Anyway have grown tired of arguing with Porkie-Tellers and Fact-checking their stories, so I am out of here untill things (hopefully) get back to normal. See you later, - I hope.

Mr K, where the hell do you think you are going? There are people on here that find your extensive knowledge of high use. The facts you provide are nearly always spot on.

Don't leave.

As the above Peter - it's a shame that the knowledge in these lounges is becoming infected with fanciful bragging which has little, if any, basis with reality.

Your accurate technical knowledge will be sorely missed - and I fear that science fiction will now prevail over science fact

Re: 8 PISTON Brake upgrade for Alfa GTA !

Such drama here, I almost feel like watching the Titanic, as in ... would rather be doing anything else BUT watching the damn movie. Which I did.....
Seems like it's near to impossible for people here to share info and tech facts.

Not that I am pro or against anyone here on AO, but this is getting really stupid, excuse my French.
GTAFAN and Monstro share their experience, some like to read their info, some do not and think they fantasize. I still cannot comprehend why those that do not believe GTAFAN and Monstro make such a big case out of it, let the people that belive what they are writing decide for themselves if the info is real or not, it's not a contest of who is right and who is wrong, no prizes or anything, you know....
Then, when one party is not given supreme aknowledgement for their facts, they act like they suffered some great injustice, threaten to leave the forum, and so on and so forth. 3rd grade behaviour if you ask me.
Live and let live is what I always say.
If you care to share some info, please do, people will aprreciate it, if you do not, then don't, it's that simple.
