Advice needed: Sports Spring Kit - Eibach Pro-Kit or H&R ?

Hi guys,

I want to lower my car (147 1.9 JTD 8v) and I am not decided witch one to chose... . Since I will use my new stock absorbers (Boge), I am searching for something not too low:
- Eibach Pro-Kit Springs (-30mm)
- H&R Springs (-35mm)
Witch ones are better? The H&R springs are more expensive compared to Eibach (199 EUR vs 159 EUR, on Alfisti). Is there any difference in car behavior between those 2 products?
Also, on the german ebay I found another deal for sports spring: "Speed-Buster" Springs , -30mm, only 86 EUR - do you know something about Speed-Buster springs? It sound fishy....
So...I have a big dilema: witch one?

forget the ebay ones... if they strike you as cheap then they are made cheap... NOT what you want on your car.

what are you looking for from your car, better handling or better looks? the -35mm drop would look better but eibach do very good kit so personally i would be sacrificing the 5mm difference for a good set of springs... im not familiar with H&R. plus, H&R website headline is 'premium quality' which always for some reason says to me there not the best... i might be wrong tho, i like my stocks... not many do! i like the oversteer and body roll, makes me feel alive haha

The reason for lowering my car is that my 147 is very high compared to my friends 147's (don't know why.. ) ! And I'm not so pleased obout the handling, so this is the main reason. On the other hand, I will prefer not to lower the car too much, the Bucharest's streets are not so perfect , so -30mm will be just fine.
The price for the Eibach spring is also better, so Eibach seems like a perfect choice.... Plus that on Alfisti web site, I can pick-up the blinker rack too along with the Eibach springs, for only 99 EUR...it's a good deal..

I have H&R springs in my 8v JTD and they have been great, they are in 2 years with the standard shocks with no problems. They are a good quality spring, equivalent to Eibach.

Hi, I have a 159 2.2jts & had eibach springs fitted - cant comment on how they are for 147 but for the 159 they are excellent, ride quality is great & the lowering is just enough to look very cool

Not sure about lowering your car - I do a lot of cycling and you don't just change the springs in your suspension without playing with the damper settings too. Assuming the stock dampers on the 147 are non-adjustable, it could unexpectedly monkey about with the handling with lower, harder springs so be careful you know what's going to happen (I may be wrong here, it might be fine to just change the springs without changing the damping but you wouldn't do it on a bike).

I've got a mate who owns a spring factory - could get a new set of custom springs for almost free but it's the unexpectedness of what will happen with the damping. He worked wonders on my bike but the dampers have separate compression/ rebound/ blow-off controls and the car hasn't.

Yes Dibby, I know what you mean. Offcourse it is recommended to change the shock absorbers too with sport shock absorbers (shortend pistons), or to go for a suspension kit, but I don't have the money. Beside, it says that sport springs ( from -x to -40mm max) will work just fine with stock absorbers. I have some friends that are rolling on this combination and no problems.

H&R is very highly regarded here, even more than eibach to be honest...

I had Eibachs on my previous car (mondeo st24) with standard shocks and they were fine. At the time, Eibach made the RS sports springs for Ford. I would definately use them again.

I've had Eibach on my 155 and was very pleased! Excellent quality and ride comfort.

H&Rs will be on my 166 in a week and I'll let you know how they feel
