You need o be carefull with the tuning as the JTS engine runs at very low RPM/ low load with stratified lean type combustion where a small rich region is created around the sparkplug in order to initiate combustion. At high RPM/load the combustion is stoichiometric homogeneous. What i want to say in simple words is that messing about with ignition timing during the first case will cause misfire.

Re: JTS tuning

Huh ?
The JTS is better than a TS in many ways, trust me on that.
The question is what are you dissapointed in ? More details....
Because you can do a lot of tuning to a JTS, but don't expect it to be cheap.

Re: JTS tuning

G5een, whilst new to this forum, I'm a long time alfa owner.

I Autodelta remapped my 156 JTS, it was the best thing I've ever done, really improved throttle response and driveability, making the car much more zippy and like the old 2.0 TS.

I then went further with brake upgrade, steel brake hoses, and coil-overs. Disaster ! I wouldn't recommend any of those, the brakes were much more powerful but so squealy when cold, which is most of the time in normal driving, and the suspension was great around town but awful on the motorway - it felt like the front and rear of the car were bouncing at different rates.

Could never get it right after that so sold it !

But the remap was sensational.

Re: JTS tuning

well i bought it thinking it would be rather quick 165bhp 200+nm torque cant be bad. then after some driving i thought hmm it doesnt feel that quick, but then im not used to a big car.

so i came on here did some searching to find its probably not 165bhp more like 145 NICE ONE. having the power of a 1.8 and yet paying a ridiculous insurance premium for a jts is it worth it?

i do love the car its just too slow. ive seen a set of cams, the autodelta re-map and diferent air filters/intakes etc. but im not sure i want to spend over 1k and still have a fairly slow car, with a massive insurance premium

Re: JTS tuning

Well, instead of complaining why don't you just sell the car if you do not like it and buy something you like ?
Maybe you have a bad JTS(there have been some rumors about this), I had one and it's one of the fastest 2l N/A cars I've driven, in fact, it's the fastest and best to drive.

Re: JTS tuning

mines an 03 and i hear the early models have less power than on paper. i know i need a new thermo (sits at 70) and i may change the maf see if that helps.

my bravo hgt (2.0 20v) pulled well at high revs where as the jts seems to die high up, having suposedly an extra 18bhp i would have thought it would be better than this.

enough moaning i need to take action lol!

Re: JTS tuning

We've had two of them until recently traded when we traded our SW for a 3.2 GT. In both of our 156's, the engines are excellent. The unit in my 156 is a real peach. Perhaps yours is duff

Cheers,

Re: JTS tuning

Mine was a 2002 JTS, and it was quite good, like I said, the best 2l N/A engine I've seen. Mine had some sort of sport pack, with the TI interior, lower and harder suspension, so the driving sensation was excelent.
Pulled OK at low rpms and at high rpms, but at high rpms I think the torque curve is going down.

Compared to the Bravo, there's only 18bhp difference, but the Bravo is lighter, so they should be about the same in terms of performance.
