Re: Retrofitting a Q2 to an existing Alfa

Thanks for the LSD v Q2 explanation and for the assurances of longevity. Can't wait to get one fitted to the wife's V6 in the next month or so

Other than the diff, what other parts are needed?

Cheers,

Simon

1. New Bolts-around 10Euro

2. Maybe new bearings-about 50Euro, not sure

Re: Retrofitting a Q2 to an existing Alfa

It is not required to change the bolts but they are cheap anyhow. The bearings need replacement only if they are worn or if the fitter does not know how not to ruin the existing ones upon removal and refitting.

A good idea would also be to change the gearbox oil. No special oil is required as is the case with disk-type LSDs.

Note: Earlier models have speedo drive on the differential, so may fit but no speedo. All late models (~1997 onwards) have speed driven off the ABS system.

GRANDISSIMO ! SO MY ALFA 166 2.5 V6 WILL HAVE A Q2 SYSTEM ! THAT'S INCREDIBLE !

Re: Retrofitting a Q2 to an existing Alfa

Just been reading this thread, interested in more traction. But what I d really like (dont know if I ll ever have the cash to do it!) is to get hold of a 156 Sport or Cross wagon Q4, rip out the gearbox/diffs/prop and rear axle and have myself a 147 Q4. Should just bolt on, although you d have to cut 5cm off the prop. Dont know why the factory never fitted it to the GT.

It's not that easy to retrofit a Q4, I can assure you.

Just fitted a Q2 into my GTA...Made a hell of a difference to the way the car drives...Especially effective in the wet

Re: Retrofitting a Q2 to an existing Alfa

How so ? The drive shaft for the rear wheels does not require you to make some room for it ? Because from what I have learned so far, it's extremely complicated to retrofit the Q4.

The floor plan is the same, as far as I m aware there were no sheet metal changes, but I could be wrong

Re: Retrofitting a Q2 to an existing Alfa

New rear axle, rear and centre diffs, new gearbox and the prop (and possibly an ECU or 2, or was it fully mechanical?) and you re away...in theory
