Funny you should mention them in the same sentence, according to google maps it would take me an hour less driving time to get to the ring probably be able to shave a chunk off that on the autobahn too.

Re: Retrofitting a Q2 to an existing Alfa
Haven't been to any of the mentioned tracks.
I'm going to Angley on 7th July though, the brand new super dooper circuit they have just completed there.
Will post a thread.

Re: Retrofitting a Q2 to an existing Alfa
Let's keep the thread Q2 oriented....
I drove the 164 2.0V6 Turbo with the Q2 today and it really does its job...the car wasn't mine so didn't explore the limits of the Q2...but where I was expecting the car to go straight while cornering it was still cornering and there was even more grip available.
Can't wait to get it fixed on my 147 QVD

KGB,
Only because I was in the car you cannot test it ... as you wish to test it :-)
Last night I test it in the city and I`m very satisfied
I have the pics now, If somebody wanna see the diffs /old and new/ and other stuff - just say it :-)

Yes please. I'm getting my newly arrived Quaife diff fitted on 30 April. I'm hoping everything will go smoothly.

This will be interesting Peter, do you think the Q2 can handle all power? Are there any figures of what it is rated for?

Re: Retrofitting a Q2 to an existing Alfa
It will not be a problem with power.. plenty of other things will break before the diff i suspect!

Re: Retrofitting a Q2 to an existing Alfa
Had a good run on the track leaving the front damping on medium firmness, only adjusting the rear for every session and it is a different story to road use. After exploring the stiffer range then trying a softer than front setting (for a total of two laps before changing it back again), when it comes to the faster cornering it is more a case of finding the correct balance of the car, the diff excelling further on the tightest of bends as ones typically being tackled on the road.
Looking forward to hearing how it performs on your Novitec Peter, how much power and torque are you bringing to the table?

Re: Retrofitting a Q2 to an existing Alfa
I have put off fitting the diff for the next few months. I sold my Q2 to a Swedish Alfisti who needed it more then I did.. His original Diff was gone..(156 Sele) I am also seriously hard up for cash ATM., Getting my other 156 ready for track season ended up being more expensive then first estimated..:eek
Fitting the Q2 is something to look forward to though.. everybody who fitted a Q2 so far, have been more then happy, so i am sure I will be too!

Re: Retrofitting a Q2 to an existing Alfa
what's the chance the q2 diff will fit the old 8v transmission? I know it won't fit the 16v tranny's but i believe the 8v gearbox has more in common with the v6's (internally anyway)

Re: Retrofitting a Q2 to an existing Alfa
@Lionheart: Is there a T2R based diff available for Alfas now?
do you (or anybody else know) where I could get one in an extreme hurry, my participation in the ring trip could yet depend on getting a Q2 preferably a race oriented variant if there is one!
My LSD let go at mondello today, my car has too much power for it - seems I can only get 1 year out of it
Cheers,
TB

Difference is the driving comfort (the way the diff comes in and how much torque is distributed; this makes it less comfortable for street use so I'm quite OK with the Q2. I can not confirm/prove it (as I have not had the Quaife in my Alfa ) but I have the feeling the Quaife is in between the T2 and the T2R. The comparison cars did not have the torque my 156 has so it's a bit of a guess, but the Q2 is very 'comfi')
Robert has now tested it for himself (in my 156), and was quite pleased with it.

Re: Retrofitting a Q2 to an existing Alfa
How did it happen, were you on the track long before it went?
From what I gather the T2R isn't even suitable for FWD because of its high torque bias ratio.

Re: Retrofitting a Q2 to an existing Alfa
It was about the 7th track day with the diff, lasted one year (same stats as last diff).
It went just before the lunchtime break, nothing too spectacular or sudden stress - just lost drive under acceleration in 4th gear. Pulled over and saw the oil leaking from the gearbox.
Its the higher torque bias that would interest me, the power assist on the GTA is so good that a bit of torque steer wouldn't worry me too much on a smooth track.
My issue is that I don't know if there is a T2R variant currently made for the Alfas!
My other issue is that I need it asap since I have to leave for the Ring on about the 14th of May, this might mean that the Q2 diff would be my only option, and I also need to find a source for this ASAP. Will be ringing Adie of AHM motorsports first thing Monday!
I believe I will be offered a free replacement of my current diff, but this is probably an expensive fallback option since the lifetime of the diff is almost certain to be one year and fitting it is expensive (6 hrs labour).
BTW for anybody who has the same diff and is worried , its not likely to be an issue for them unless they are > ~330ft/lb torque.

I'm not a doctor - but I really do recommend braking later
