Ordered some eibach springs from alfisti.net in germany (£158 delivered) for my 2006 GT with 95k on the clock.
Wanted to lower the car as the GT sits too high in standard form. Also I'd been getting a fair bit of creaking from the rear suspension which was annoying. I wasn't keen on getting appropriate shocks simply due to additional cost and not overly concerned about getting the best handling possible. Obviously it was still a bit of a gamble just getting springs though.
On the rear, a new pair of transverse arms(?), i think thats what they're called, were fitted, as they looked pretty shot.
Result - very happy! besides car sitting appropriately low, the handling is way better. Previously, i'd brace myself over holes in the road for the expected 'crash' and the dreadful sound that accompanied it. No crashing now, no awful metallic sounds, drives much more comfortably, oh and less roll round corners. One noticeable difference is going over those raised zebra crossings ...you get the bounce on the way off it, which was to be expected based upon the standard shocks setup. Can't tell any difference on normal speed bumps. To be honest, I prefer the bounce rather than the old crash. Always going to be a compromise somewhere with this setup. Just hope the existing shocks don't pack up. The old springs didn't look in very good shape either!
I would say its a good change for me as my existing springs and arms had seen better days and i wasn't ever going to spend an additional £500 on better shocks. For those interested, fitting was 1hr labour per corner at my local alfa indy.
Quick thanks to John at MVC in Sale for fitting them and helping me out with a few other bits.
What a difference - the car looks great. It always bugged me how high my GT rode, especially at the back when fitted with the 18" wheels. Yours looks perfect now - absolutely spot on. It is amazing what a subtle but effective difference it makes eliminating the gap between the wheels and the arches.
Nice to hear it has perked up the handling too without clobbering the ride quality.
