These Nm figures are easily doable either on 5 speed C503 gearbox. 6 speed C530 should be still fine with 450Nm, maybe even a bit more.

 

But m32 and c530 are the same?

 

I doubt it... I believe the M32 is the gearbox that is fitted to the guilietta and/or MiTo... 320 NM max...

 

Actually running with 340 Nm and 160hp, my objective is arrive to 220hp@4000rpm and 420Nm@3.000rpm.

 

I was running 321lb/ft in my Grande Punto with the M32 box. Ran nicely for 50,000 miles without a problem.

Have no clue. C503/510 are gearbox codes, M32 sounds to me just like ePer engne variant.

 

It had a remap by RedDot Racing and a GSR induction kit. It was running 189bhp on RedDot's RR.

I think the reference in that thread is about the maximum output of the standard 1.9 150bhp. They have 320nm as standard. That's not to say the 'box can't take any more.

The M32 is also in a Vauxhall/Opel Astra VXR/OPC. Only difference is that the GM version has a nylon 6th gear, the Grande Punto version has a steel one.

From what I have read the M32 6 speed box was designed to have a max working load of 320nm, so pushing above that will not help its life.

that's also what I've read on the squadra website... Guilietta gearbox designed for 320 Nm, clutch for 350 Nm...

 

Where did the information come from? Why would Fiat/Alfa use a gearbox that is only just capable of handling the standard cars torque figures? Not many failures reported for remapped Grande Puntos/159's with around 400nm of torque. As said, I ran mine for 50,000 miles and it was still in great condition.

Ok, if the 159 doesn't, there are other 1.9 150 MultiJet's that do. Such as the Bravo 150, and as I said earlier, the Astra 150 diesel range as well as the VXR/OPC version of the car.

320Nm@4000 is still enough for almost 180HP (200HP @4500rpm).

It ran fine for 50,000 miles with those figures, and I can show you at least another 10 cars that have similar outputs but no gearbox issues.....

 

the c530 box is good upto 420 Nm (design limit) but a lot of diesel owners use a lot more torque... yet gta's with a similar box and identical diff blow their diff when you look at it funny....

could be because of the dmf that the limit is a bit higher in diesel cars....

 

It is all in the gearing. Diesel has tall gearing, and the max torque on wheels is not as high as the crank torque might suggest.

 

AFAIK 159 1.9 JTDm uses F32 gearbox, thats why you cant fit Quaife torsen differential to 1.9 JTDm, only in 2.4 JTDm which uses F40 gearbox.

 

Аctually the F40 Quaife fits the F32 gearbox too...it just needs a set of additional bearings or something like that.

and yes most astras don't have the F40, but Vectra's and Saabs do...

 

it could be true for the 159 although a few days ago I had a chat with a 159 1.9 owner who also happens to be working in a Alfa specialist garage and he told me he's got the same gearbox as me(although he might have meant GM one)....Vauxhalls and Saabs have the F40 for sure....

 

The astra GTC 1.9 cdti 120/150 hp use a M32 gearbox.

 

2.4 uses F40... and we all know that it can handle more than 400Nm, jbsmith1 proved that...

 

and 6spd box is 12mm longer than 5 speed.....

 

Oh, I was basing that on Pud saying that the 147/156/GT 6 speed wont fit the 10v 2.4, take it the F40 is more compact, hence why they used it for the 20V ?

 

From what I've heard Alfa simply did not have an own box rated for 385nm at the time and had to use the GM one...

i know of several 10v with alfa 6 speed box fitted... straigth fit but it depends a bit on the wheells fitted if you can use full lock or not

 

Hmmm, isnt the gearbox in 166 2.4 20V the same alfa 6 speed gearbox than used on 1.9 JTD 16V (147, 156, GT) or 2.4 10V (166).

Judging from the gear ratios, it is the alfa unit, not GM...

 

Perhaps 166 has wider track and so Alfa's 6speed fits without issue?

The F40 box is physically much shorter than a 6-speed Alfa gearbox. Bellhousing is less deep, and gearbox casing is as well.

Yeah that is true 166 is wider, that is why they managed to fit 6-speed alfa gearbox into 166 2.4 10V, but I was looking at torque figures.
In all other applications in diesels Alfa 6-speed gearbox is "limited" to 305Nm, but in 166 2,4 20V (both 175 and 185BHP) it is rated to 385Nm stock. Is that the same or modified alfa 6-speed gearbox?

 

Hi, everyone seems to be clued up on gearboxes here, can someone clarify which 6speed gearbox is used in an 09 95bhp Mito, i was lead to believe it was c635 box, but then i was told it was the bcc514 box any info would be great
