1.6 vs 1.8...

looking at the spec between the 1.6 and 1.8TS engines all i can see that changes is the stroke, everything else seems the same, except with a slightly lower redline. Would installing the crank from a 1.8TS increase my displacement (in my 1.6) to that of the 1.8?
Obviously its going to need a new "Map" but that could be done..

the cams and the crank are different, also either the conrods or the pistons...

In fact I imagine the valves could be different aswell..

Re: 1.6 vs 1.8...

No, the valves are the same along with the rest of the valvetrain (excl cams) & head. The bottom end is different, making oversizing to 1.8 virtually impossible. I know because I've tried it on my 147 1.6's engine with crank, pistons and conrods and the TDC rose 6mms over the block's top edge and none of the available conrod/piston combinations would help.

Another thing is that the 1.6 conrods/pistons have a smaller pin diameter than the 1.8 ones, so they are not interchangeable.

Cams are interchangeable. Infact I've been running 1.8/2.0 cams in my 1.6 remapped engine without probs for years.

And did you see any increase in performance?

Yes, after the remap. The intake cam has a slight advance from the position specified by the locking tools, therefore the ignition advance had to be considerably modified. Before the remap the engine was full of flat spots under 3000rpm.

So is there much difference in 1.8 and 2.0 cams then?
