exhaust system to 1.8 ts

Hi
I'm preparing to modify my exhaust system. Could you give me any advice? Now I got a sports cat, the middle custom muffer, and one more custom muffer on the end of the exhaust system. What more can I change? Is this middle box really necessary? Or maybe not?? As i see in the Ragazzon's or supersprint's systems have only the cat and one muffer on the and. Will it really be so loud?? And maybe someone know the dimension of the original pipes and the Ragazzon/Supersprint's? is it the same??
Thanks a lot

Re: exhaust system to 1.8 ts

It all depends on what you want, for a start I dont think anyone does a 4branch manifold for the TwinSpark but if you remove your exhaust heat shied your notice that the Twiny comes with a 4-2-1 which is a real bonus

To get the gases flowing more easy you could lose the centre section from the system, this will not only add a little more pony power but also increase the exhaust note if thats your thing.

You've done a good thing going for the sports cat as it has less cells to allow more gases flow.

Basically it works like this (in theory)

A twin box system (back box / centre box) should produce more low to mid range power as it adds torque.
A single box system (back box only) should move that gains in the rev range higher up and more mid to high as it slightly lowers torque.

But in all honesty you'd probally only notice this or see it with a back to back test with both systems or on a rolling road.

Changing back boxes might make a slight different but again not much maybe 1bhp or 3bhp max, Id settle on a design you like and stick with that, if you want a little extra volume then lose the centre box. It should show in making the engine a little more free reving too.

If you haven't already you could look into improving induction.
With either enclosed or open filters, both have pros and cons.

Get some pic's of the system and tailpipe as it is now.

Hope that helps

Re: exhaust system to 1.8 ts

i got the intake with the 2, 90 mm pipes to ge enaugh air to my cone filter. I also got a big shield made from the 5 littres Heineken

I want only two things:
1. Not to lose any horses removeing the center silencer (I'll leave the cat is it a good idea?)
2. Get aggresive sound. Some people say about strange vibrations without central box.

Not quite sure what that looks like, get a picture and post it back in this thread, either way make sure you have a at least one cold air feed that can supply cool/cold atmosphere to the induction kit - otherwise your suffer heat soak and a dip in performance.

Ok so the first one:
You won't lose any horse power by removing the centre box, but you might see a small (and I mean you'd have to dyno it) dip in torque but you won't notice.
And secondly your def get a more aggresive exhaust note from a single box system. As for vibrations you might have been told about stainless steel systems which resotate more than a mild steel system but I won't worry about that.

The choice is yours but I wont expect to get much more bhp out of a 1.8. A litely tuned 1800 with good breathing mods like mentions might be able to keep up with or even out perform a 2000 but I wont expect much more out of it.

Hope that helps

Re: exhaust system to 1.8 ts

ok i thing I know everything. But please advice me what's better.
1. Buy a supersprint central pipe and make it fit to the rest of my exhaust?? Is it worth this money?
2. Just cut off the central box and put there a piece of metal pipe??

Re: exhaust system to 1.8 ts

Right basically both will do the same job as your just removing the centre siliencer so either will do. But in the case of which will be cheaper well . . .

My best advice to you is to try and find a custom exhaust shop who can remove the box and replace it with a straight peice of pipework.

Is the Supersprint item listed for you car? Weigh up which is cheaper having the centre box removed or just using the replacement pipe from Supersprint.
If the repacement pipe isnt a direct replacement for your system then your need to modify it anyway which will be easier if a custom exhaust fitter does it.

IF you do do it yourself, make sure to use axel stands and not just a jack and use plenty of WD40 on the joins at least 24hrs before you start to help losen the joins between the systems.

Hope that helps

Re: exhaust system to 1.8 ts

Of course I can buy a supersrpint central pipe for 156. But I'll nedd to modify it because it will be too long to the exhaust with my custom cat.the super sprint product is about ten times more expensive than this piece of normal pipe. So thats why I'm asking if the supersprint pipe is worth this money? Or maybe this piece of pipe will be good enaugh enaugh?
