New exhaust

I want to get a free flowing exhaust for my 159 1.8, ive looked around MIJ Performance custom make them, does anyone have information about MIJ, or comments as to how good their products are in terms of engine note, power gain.

There is a backbox on Novitec website for €270 odd euros, but will this just be a sound improvement if i dont replace the stuff further up?

Is a "cat back" system, replacing all parts from the CAT converter backwards?

Re: New exhaust

Its a hobby i dont smoke or drink, and i got the car cheap brand new for £17k, i figure i can spend a grand and not be considered a plonker, i might as well save the cash and get something with a bigger engine is what your thinkin, my car looks even more gorgeous, handles a lot better which is a big enjoyment for me, you dont need a big engine to enjoy bendy roads, if a new exhaust will improve the engine note, appearance and small performance gain that would be nice as well ?

This is what Mij said:
> The cat-back stainless steel exhaust system you've requested for your Alfa Romeo 159 will cost £294.99 this is fully inclusive of fuel discount (£25), vat & fitting.
> I've included a round tailpipe in the quotation, you can choose an alternative or upgrade from our extensive range of 40 tailpipes if you wish.

> We carry all the necessary parts needed to build your exhaust system instore, so it should take no longer than 2 - 3 hrs to build & fit the system.
> If you choose to wait with your car, we have a customer lounge with refreshments, SKY TV/DVD & internet access. We're only a few minutes walk from the city centre if you decide to go shopping etc. while we work on your car.

> As your system will be custom built, you can tell us how you would like it sound, anywhere from quiet to full sport. Our most popular choice is a Mid-Sport, this gives the best of both worlds, not intrusive but achieves the sporty sound you want from your car upon applying the throttle.

Re: New exhaust

I don't think you're daft but I'd give the nos a miss! Wouldn't mind a more tunefull exhaust on mine TBH, plus a map to iron out the hesitation

Re: New exhaust

A CAT back is going to be the best option as it is only a 1.8. Replacing the CAT will not do anything apart from costing alot of money. If you're really keen on a "performance" system, make sure they use Mandrel bent pipes as opposed to press bent pipes to reduce exhaust flow restiction thru the bends in your exhaust. 304SS is the goods and i'd say the exhaust will outlive the car but thats not a bad thing when you have a sweet Italian 4-pot singing away with a raspy gurgle coming from the back.

[quote=Stevie28;1769460]Cheers, i thought the cat is quite restrictive? QUOTE]

if you know someone who is a dab hand at welding, ya can take your car to them, get them to measure up the diametar of your exhaust pip before & after the cat & have a decat pipe made up to remove the restriction... you won't pass the MOT with this though, so you'll need to remove the decat & put the cat back on before the MOT and then swap back again after...

The noise off it'll be increased, and you'll recieve a slight gain, although you'll lose a small bit of power off the top of your rev range

the irish country roads go round and round, round and round, round and round

........ AND I LOVE IT!

Re: New exhaust

If sound is what you are after and a wee bit of performance gain a bonus, go for a titanium back box now there not cheap, your whole budget would get you a back box, but this is all you really need.

ƒŠƒAƒ}ƒtƒ‰[@ƒtƒƒ“ƒgƒpƒCƒv@ƒZƒ“ƒ^[ƒpƒCƒv@‹‹”r‹C now there is nothing under 159 as yet but as everything is built to order im sure they could build something for you.

Just to give you an idea, here is what mine sounds like after buying a back box

Re: New exhaust

A mandrel bent pipe keeps the diameter right thru the bend. press bending is where the pipe is crushed to be able to bend the pipe. if you put the camera able a foot or 2 behind the muffler you will get a better idea of the sound of the exhaust and for goodness sake give it some beans! those 2cams sound hawt at high revs. just remember to warm her up first!
