Where is EGR valve pipe in 147JTD 8v?

I have low power by the start and under acceleration circumstances and I think that good idea is block of EGR valve as the first step in the solution. But, where is EGR valve pipe in the 147JTD 8v engine bay precisely?
Cheers. Dusan.

It starts just before the turbo...goes around the engine and ends in the EGR valve itself, which is located on the back side of the inlet manifold.

Your EGR can be closed electronically (by means of remap).

Closing the EGR is illegal in the EU.

Re: Where is EGR valve pipe in 147JTD 8v?

Hello Petko and thanks for the information...
I really don't know that EU rules forbidden closing of the EGR valve... because many forums consists information about block of EGR as the solution for the black smoke from the exhaust, low power on the cold start, full power achieve, etc.
My friend who was remap of my Alfa thinks that the software disconnecting of EGR for 147JTD 8v is impossible in his remap. He uses ECM2001 tuning software.
It will be nice if you explain details about software EGR disconnection for us.
Best regards from Dušan.

p.s. I will be thankful if you answer my question in http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/tunin...ml#post1745841 (New backbox for 147JTD 8v)

Re: Where is EGR valve pipe in 147JTD 8v?

EGR exhaust gas recirculation...is a part of the emission control system that almost any modern car has. Messing with it means changing the emission levels of your car, which is illegal.

Yes, it is true that by closing the EGR valve you will achieve small gains in power...BUT in your car the EGR valve is almost completely closed after 3000rpm. Below 3000rpms there is a difference and it is better for the engine to have the EGR valve closed...because more "fresh" air is entering the engine.

The single advantage for the engine by having the EGR valve open is a slightly faster warm-up times in the mornings.

Regarding software closing of the EGR valve....well what should I say....I don't want to offend anyone but, there you get the difference between a good tuner and someone changing things without knowing what is what or just trying to copy someone else work. Ask him if he knows at what pressure levels is your pump working now after the remap....as he can very easily damage it. And it costs a lot...about a 1 000Euro.

In the second remap for my car from DigitalTuning the pump pressure levels were too high and yet the car was slower around the track compared to Celtictuning remap...the difference between a good tuner and an excellent tuner.

Ps: later on I will answer in the other thread...

Best Regards,

Petko

Re: Where is EGR valve pipe in 147JTD 8v?

Petko my friend,
First, I wish to thanks for your instruction about the EGR valve function.
I think the benefit from EGR closing is small but obvious, regards to the fact that every car drive in midrange revs area (between 1200rpm and 3000rpm), typically.
Second, I fully appreciate differences in the chip-tuning world and I see "who-is-who" in the movie called "Alfa Romeo Remap". There exists public, actors, screenplay writers, producers, directors etc. Now (in this moment) I am only public. It is normal because, as I mentioned in my earlier post, our tuning market is in early development phase. Your cooperation in this forum is very instructive for us (public and actors from mentioned parallel) and we are sensible about your involvement.
In expect your following contribution and help I wish you good luck.
Best regards from Dušan.
