Boxing 159 2.2 JTS Remap

My 159 2.2 JTS fuel efficiency seems quite bad. My old Fiat Bravo HGT 155 2.0used to return 30 mpg even when driven fairly hard. The 2.2 seems to be giving 25 mpg driven normally. Are others getting similar figures?. Is there a connection between the lack of punch between 1100 and 1400 rpm i.e the famous 2.2 JTS hesitation and the fuel efficiency?

Thinking of getting a remap done. Apart from Autodelta, how are Vtune and Angeltuning? any ideas chaps?

Thanks.

Re: 159 2.2 JTS Remap

How many miles has it done?

Remapping will improve it a bit.

Having to robustly pull away all
the time due to the factory map
may impact the overall consumption.

Is anyone else remapping the 2.2 yet?

Re: 159 2.2 JTS Remap

All it does is advance the ignition a bit to get a tad more fuel in before it knocks.

Unless you alter your driving it'll make hee haw difference.

Our 2 litre 147 only gets 28mpg - my 2.4 159 gets 32 - 38

The old 1.9 Jtd 159 did 38-44

Re: 159 2.2 JTS Remap

I'm getting 26 mpg from my 2.2 but if you push it, it drops. On nearly 9,000 miles now most of that is motorways.

AD's remap does give better consumption.
(Observed by cruising through france
both with and without the remap)

Went from 26 mpg before to 28mpg after
the remap. (Measured on roughly the same stretch
of autoroute , speeds between 120 and 150 kph)

It has done 9500 miles now. Again any experience or knowledge of Vtune or Angeltuning? How does the remap affect the warranty?
Thanks.

Re: 159 2.2 JTS Remap

If a map is done correctly, it can't be detected by a dealer (something to do with a checksum).

It's not as if we are looking for better "performance" though is it?

I just want mine to drive better at low speeds around town or in traffic. Anything else (better mpg or a few more BHP) is a bonus as far as I am concerned

Exactly, although if the dealer performs an
update for some reason, the map may get wiped.

Best to get it done after the first full service and make
sure there are no outstanding electronic issues
that may involve the dealer doing any firmware
updates etc.

Are any other tuners even offering a 2.2JTS remap yet?

I can see the 2.2 JTS listed on VTune website. vtune.me.uk
Claimed increase:
185 bhp to 200 bhp
230 NM to 260 NM

No not had mine done. Nev, are your fuel consumption improvements measured by trip computer or by brim to brim?

Just had a look at that site. Looks good, as long as the gains bring better driveability and do not shatter the already mediocre mpg.

They mention dealer detection and seem to have that covered too No mention of cost though

I notice that AD do not really mention power / torque gains. Did they say anything to you Nev or does it feel as if it has any more poke?

Re: 159 2.2 JTS Remap

I think 200bhp is a very feasible claim to make. Red Dot took a 1.6 TS from 117bhp to 134bhp, but obviously the TS engine is not as highly tuned as standard than the JTS.

I think ~ +10bhp was to be expected, but
nothing measured.

Having said that, in every day driving I couldn't say I
notice a difference in terms of power.
But the 1st gear rev limiter is set
higher and launching out of a toll booth is more lively.

Also I don't seem to drop out of sixth on
the autoroute as much as I used to.

That and the smooth standing starts are the
only things I could hold my hand up and say,
"Yes, much improved!"

I just sold the HGT to my colleague, and he reported 30 mpg+
I used to get around 240 miles to every 40 litres of standard fuel which is exactly 29.575 mpg , but when I first got the car it used give me 32 mpg. My 159 2.2 JTS is currently 26 mpg!!!

Any owners with a 2.2JTS please vote in the poll, located in the 159/Brera forum.

Currently 26.3 , after a 500 miles trip mainly motorway, constantly watching the instantaneous fuel consumption display and driving around 80 to 90 mph. Am sure this will drop with a heavy right foot.
No idea of Vtune price. Will call them maybe after an outcome from the 2.2 JTS hesitation poll currently on.

The 26.3 was that on the display or brim to brim?

That is better than mine, I'm getting 27/28 on 30 mile run, 15 miles on A&B roads (no traffic) and 15 mway at 60mph.
If I did 80/90mph on a motorway I would get probably 22/24mpg.

I once did 120 miles on a mway at 70mph and got 31mpg.

I would be very happy to get 26 at 90mph.

my hgt would give me around 26mpg but it was the older 147 (no vvt)

26mpg out of a modern car is off putting. has anyone been in-touch with alfa romeo?
