Sinspeed Chip mod +25bhp! Sounds too good to be true!

Guys, anyone ever heard of a Sinspeed tuning chip mod?

Seen them on flee-bay. The guy listing them has some great feedback.

It's a piggy back chip that fools the ecu into thinking it's sucking in colder air...+25bhp sounds way too good to be true but he does have lots of good feedback!? I'd be happy with 10bhp

If you want to check it out it's at

+25BHP Power Mod/Chip ALFA ROMEO 145,166,GT,156,146,155 on eBay, also Chips, Performance Tuning Parts, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 27-Apr-08 20:22:04 BST)

I may get one just to review it, at £14.95 I can't go that wrong unless it blows the ecu I guess.....any thoughts???

Most of the feedback appears to be prior to fitting and relates to dispatch, delivery and packing! If I was you I'd email a couple of the buyers and see how it works as aproduct first.

Thought about that, but are people so dumb as to leave feedback for a product before bothering to test it?

Yeah people really are that dumb. Think about it, would you bother listening to anyone that thought that buying one of those would be a good idea?..

I guess not, but there are definately a few feedbacks from people that have apparently fitted it - are these bogus? I can't imagine you'd get 25bhp gain but surely it's possible to gain 5-10bhp by cheating. Seeing as you are an expert can you explain what does a "real" chip does then?

it gives a big flatspot in the power curve not worth the postage! its just a resistor, you can buy these in maplin for pennies, but still doesnt work

So not bhp gain at all Obviously not surprised am going to Red Dot next month £280 for 10bhp sounds more realistic

a chip is installed inside the ecu which changes the air/fuel mixture in the engine, also will advace or retard ignition timing to gain power

this resistor just makes it think it has cold air, so adds extra fuel as cold air is denser, so tries to stop it running lean, but it causes it to run rich instead

Re: Sinspeed Chip mod +25bhp! Sounds too good to be true!

Pure junk , as already said. As a matter of interest my understanding of how the fuel map works is like this:

Fit one of these chips and the car then runs rich.
On startup car is running richer and may lead to some dilution of your oil from bore wash.
When engine warms up the Lambda tells the ECU that car is running rich.
ECU trims back the fuel and you're back where you started.

All this is in the short term memory of the chip but over time the ECU learns this and adds it to the long term memory.
This then means that even when running in open loop (cold engine or immediately after hot start up) the mixture will be leaned down to the new levels it has learned (which is again back to where you started)

It's very hard to find specific info on various ECUs and whether both the motronic 2.10 and 1.5 series handle the long term memory the same way so if anyone knows specifics then please shout.
