156 Rear Brake Pads

Need new rear brake pads, old ones are nearly down to the metal.

I have Tarox/Red Dot 20-groove discs, pads at the moment are Red Dot ones.. I was thinking of upgrading to Ferodo DS2500s for the rear in anticipation of doing a big front brake upgrade.

But having looked at the prices, I can get a set of EBC Greenstuff rear pads for £34.42 or Ferodo DS2500s for £89.98 - quite a price difference!

What do you guys think? Considering I'm quite poor

Re: 156 Rear Brake Pads

I think the general consensus of opinion is DS2500 for the front and DS Performance for the rear.

Re: 156 Rear Brake Pads

DS Perfs are still £72..

I just wonder if anyone has had any experience with the green-stuff pads? I imagine they'll be similar to DS Perfs as they are a fast road pad rather than a track/road pad like DS2500s. Are the Ferodo's really worth more than twice the price?

What about some Red Dot pads for the rear?

Re: 156 Rear Brake Pads

Come on Dan, you know the rears do bugger all. Just get some OEM/Red Dots rears and some decent pads upfront.

I don't think your car even has EBD so the rears are just for handbrake use only...

I think I'm just gonna go for the Green Stuff. I think Joe has a point to be fair..

No EBD here. Or VDC or any of that nonsense Just good old ABS

I think I'm gonna get those Green Stuff pads, they aren't much dearer than OEM and they are a bit harder so shouldn't get chewed by the grooved discs. I know its not going to make a blind bit of difference to the stopping power of the car, I need to remember the harder I press on the pedal the more the weight shifts forward and the more work the fronts do in relation to the rears..

Fronts are Red Dot/Tarox Sport Japan as well, I'm still budgeting for the big brake conversion. But Ned has tempted me with the Eibachs & FSDs.. I was sort of happy with my suspension til I drove his 2.5

Been trying to get a labouring-for-cash job lined up for when I leave uni but a lot of my brickie/labouring contacts have been laid off themselves, flaming credit crunch ruining my plans

You sure about that?

All 156 had EBD, it is part of the ABS system.

Always willing to be corrected David. I wasn't sure that the early 156's had it.. good to know.

Electronic Brakeforce Distribution - what does it do exactly then? :hmm:

Never even knew I had it. I definitely don't have VDC though.

It uses ther rear discs to brake you harder. It also balances the car in a straight line in tie with the ABS system. The rears are still used on a much lighter scale than the fronts but they do make a difference.
