GTV 2.0 TS

Well down on power!!

Hi guys,
Took the GTV in for a rolling road diagnostics and found the car was running at an unbelievable 101BHP!!!
Checked the engine over and removed the plugs and leads. It appeared that cylinder 3 was running lean (what is the issue with cylinder 3 on the 2.0 TS?) That was the only thing we really found.

The engine was fitted a week ago and came out of a 50k car. The car runs smooth enough but is just flat. It has the prominant kick at 5000 revs but thats little compensation to losing 50bhp.

I noticed this morning that when I reved upto 5k the injector light came on. What could this show?

Any help would be much appreciated.

The car was fitted with all OE parts, including the timing belts and variator. The garage that fitted it said you couldn't go wrong with the timing as the part is included in the kit.

Cheers

Mick

Re: Well down on power!!

I'd take it back to the garage, get another diagnostic and then go back to the person who sold you the engine.

Losing a third of your bhp sounds very drastic by any standards.

Did they check the afr's when on the Rollers ? If they did and you have a graph post it up might give some clues..

Wouldn't hurt to have the injectors (especially that of cylinder #3) measured and cleaned if necessary.

you mentioned the injector light showing, that's how OBD 1 cars tell you that there is an engine fault..

poor power could also result from insufficient current to the motor, (poor battery or alternator). Sounds silly but i have seen this on my GTA and 166. if the current is wrong, then all hell breaks loose..

Re: Well down on power!!

Fitted the K&N and that blew the MAF. Took her into a specialist in Lincoln and they confirmed the sensor had gone but agreed that cleaning it may work. They also said there will be no probs running without the sensor.
Got home and cleaned the MAF but a bit fell off so definately don't work now. Connected it back up and the injector light still shows but it goes like stink again. And as for fuel consumption, in a run to the North east and back i used half a tank covering 260 miles. I can live with that.
Looking at taking her back in for a re-run on the rolling road. its definately kicking out what it should and will tweak it to get that little bit more. Who said TVR's are tempremental? Mine are like german repmobiles in comparison, but who cares!!!!

would be worth replacing the MAF given you know it is duff. there only about 80 quid if you shop about.

Re: Well down on power!!

Damn, I was going to suggest you might have a dodgy MAF but you'd already diagnosed it.

Re: Well down on power!!

MAF sorted and running as it should. K&N gives it a nice roarty note over 4.5k and has its kick back again after 5k. Pearler of an engine, very quiet and 400 miles on a tank!!!
Looking at another rolling road session in the next few weeks. Definately back up to factory figures and will have it remapped to give it a little extra.
Loving Alfa again!!!
