Re: Power calculator!
Assuming my Coupe has 260bhp which is what I expect my 0-60 is 5.76secs, and 1/4 mile in 13.85.
Not bad, but it's the midrange where it really kicks ass. The calculator doesn't tell you that.

I know what you mean, same here. The figures seem to be quite accurate though.

Re: Power calculator!
What suprised me is that there are so many other things that you think would impact on this, like gearing, aerodynamics.... but really its all about power and weight.

Re: Power calculator!
Just tried mine, but, if I use kerb weight of 1510 its better than the figure from the ministry brake testing weight chart of 1690! Bit of a difference eh.

and traction, especially if you have a Glenwood 350bhp N/A 3.7 v6 or an Autodelta 400bhp Supercharged 3.7GTA AM...

Re: Power calculator!
Interesting.
My previous Volvo 850 T5 should, in accordance to the calculator, do a mid 5 to 60 and 13.7 1/4 mile. Thanks to a lack of traction it is a bout 0.5 of a second out.
My second test was my Skoda Fabia vRS. I only have the WHP which is 160 so I assumed we are talking 185 at the crank. I competed in the tuner GP 2005 in that car and won my class with a 6.6 0-60 and 15.2 1/4 mile. It is 1 second out 0-60 and 0.4 seconds out 1/4 mile [I have to change gear 3 times]. So it is more for n/a petrol's I guess.
Like the Fiat Coupe guy, the Volvo's midrange was just silly

Re: Power calculator!
according to that my MG should do 0-60 in 5.73s, have 196.4bhp/ton and a 14.04 quarter mile. ill believe that when i do it! traction is a no no!
i prefer using Car Stats - Calculator same idea but a few mroe stats

Gearing on production cars is not hugely different.. Cars with shorter gearing usually have less torque. Case in point Toyota 1.8 T-sport (180 bhp and a mere 165 Nm at a silly rpm) or the Civic Type R (200 Bhp and again 190-something Nm at a silly rpm again). both these cars have short gearing cause they need it to overcome the shortage of torque..

I would guess this site is the actual data provider for many sites that offer theory times.

Re: Power calculator!
Wouldn't suprise me but what I thought was interesting is how close the theoretical times are to the manufacturer times.

Re: Power calculator!
Its figures aren't too far off at all for any cars I have owned or been interested in.
BHP/tonne is the main thing allright..
(the diesel owners might be disappointed to note that torque is essentially irrelevent )

Re: Power calculator!
Apparently, if a 100KG person produces 1/2 BHP they will reach 60mph in 95 seconds
Something wrong there ?????

Re: Power calculator!
That was a cool link.
It actually said the cyclist generates about 0.5 bhp,
and he can hit 84mph!!! (world record)

Re: Power calculator!
Humans are torque monsters though, your average produces around 120 lbft, a tuned one maybe 160, just not high revers stops them having more power, that and they're around half the size of a horse.
