ECU Wont Accept Remap

Just had angel round to remap the 156 but to no avail.
The ECU won't accept the map, something to do with it not reading the settings from the PC.

Possibly going to come back next week with different kit to see if they can sort it.

Anyone had any experience of this?

Adam

Never heard of this before. Has your car been chipped by a previous owner? Squadra chip for example?

Nope, well not to my knowledge. Don't think the previous owner would have done anything to it.

The guy from Angel said he hasn't seen this before either.

Re: ECU Wont Accept Remap

disconnect the battery for a day.

I had the same problem with an astra dti using collins performance a few years back, they blamed the car.

A while later I chipped it myself with no problem at all.

Re: ECU Wont Accept Remap

Wouldn't that just reset the ECU? I've done this using the key turn method.

The guy said resetting the ECU wouldn't have any effect.

Re: ECU Wont Accept Remap

I can't think of anything else that happened to my astra in the months from collins looking at it to me having a go.
It never went near a garage for any fix.

you haven't much to loose by trying?

Was thinking about "chipping" my JTD myself, as theres plenty of softeware/connectors available on ebay. How did you manage it? How did you know how much to advance fueling/boost etc without causing damage?

Re: ECU Wont Accept Remap

would never trust an unproven 'ebay' map on my car.

also, would prefer the likes of red dot to do the map as they use a rolling road. recently mapped a car up here with the same map as has been used on two identical cars to great succes and saw a dramatic LOSS in performance. the rolling road showed this and we were able to modify the map to suit the individual engine.

Re: ECU Wont Accept Remap

Nigel from Angel came back today and managed to do the remap.

I'm actually looking forward to my 45 mile drive to our Leeds office tomorrow morning.

Did you just have the Remap on the Standard set up or have you got the BMC ?

I generally agree with that.

I used some ebay maps to test that the boost pipes could sustain higher pressure before going to red dot as I had fitted a FMIC and a few other hardware mods, it wouldn't have been much cop going to red dot and all the pipes blowing off!

That said, i left on an ebay map on the car, it produced 192bhp on red dots rolling road and it was not an easy task to beat, although he did!

I wouldn't mess about too much with ebay maps unless you can monitor the boost levels and have knowledge of whats going on. I found the vast majority of maps on an ebay disc to be pretty useless, but as I said, there was 1 gem on it.

My advise would be either, beware, or take it to red dot.

Re: ECU Wont Accept Remap

Out of interest DJ, whats your mileage??

I'm contemplating a remap (from red dot), Im just concerned as my car is approaching 100,000 miles, I don't really want to put any additional strain on any parts...

Re: ECU Wont Accept Remap

Got 66k on the clock.

Next mods :-

1. Fit my spoiler (It's currently at the body shop being sprayed)
Autostyle Alfa Romeo 156 Modern boot spoiler

2. Spray my wing mirrors silver.

3. I'm thinking of attempting the GTA headlamp mod but am in two minds as to whether this will look good on a silver car? Any thoughts?

4. Want to do something with the front end to make it a bit more attactive, was thinking of maybe spraying the black bits on the front bumper.

Re: ECU Wont Accept Remap

1. :hmm: I'll reserve judgement until I see it in the flesh. Its going to be very 'marmite' I reckon.

2. , but don't spray the brackets. Maybe give them another coat of black to sharpen them up a bit..

3. It will look awesome

4. Do it, don't forget to do the bits on the rear bumper as well. I reckon it looks better without the black bits, but some people prefer the car with them.
