Straight throught duplex exhaust on JTD GT

I'm toying with the idea of changing the exhaust on my GT JTD to a custom straight through (cat back) pipe, splitting into 2 pipes going to either side of the car with just tail pipes welded onto the ends of both (no back boxes). The only problem I can see is the spare wheel well, not sure if there will be enough room for 2nd pipe. I looks like the piece of valance on rear bumper will just come off so no bumper cutting should be needed.

Anyone done something like this? would be interested to know if it is possible without cutting part of the wheel well away. Pics would be great.

thanks

You have to remove the towing eye cover and cut away at the bodywork to get the 2nd pipe in. I did read an online guide on how to do this and if I can remember I will post the link

Thanks, the pic is very usefull. I've had a look at my spare wheel well and there seems to be a bit of free space so hopefully i'd be able to still use it for spare wheel. By the looks of the photo there doesnt seem to be too much cut away so thats good. Not bothered about the towing eye so not a problem.

thanks

Gaddang that looks good. picked up my Q2 Blackline on Friday just gone and apart from a performance enhancement on the engine, this is top of my list of to do's.

Do you know anyone in the UK that would tackle this. My nearside exit is already twin without mod of the back valance and as has been said, the offside has a matching blanking plate, so I would have thought there could be some way of making up a system without cutting the stock car parts, as long as you don't go for large bore exit pipes.

Edit:I've just read else where on the Forum that, as you say, the towing eye assembly does need cutting away to allow the exit for the offside exhaust exit. If you could find the guide to do this, that would be spot on.

Cheers,

Craig.

7 March 2008 was GT Q2 Blackline day. What a day!

Re: Straight throught duplex exhaust on JTD GT

A good custom exhaust centre should be albe to do this, I did something very similar on my old Seat Ibiza FR TDi, ran a new pipe back from the cat with branching into 2 pipes with 4.5in oval tips. Took a good few hours to do but as there was no silencers it keeps the price down. All in it cost me £200 and I've been quotted the same for the GT! although I think that could go up as the spare wheel well will need modified. Unfortunately for you i'm in Scotland (www.motorsportworld.co.uk), sure there will be somewhere near you that could do it tho, probably not at this good a price tho.
