GTA Intake Arrived, Remap Booked
Evening All,
Right, GTA Intake pipe arrived the other day from the local main dealer and I've got my remap booked in for the end of the month through Angel.
Also bought a standard air filter incase the one that's in the airbox needs replacing. I'm going to fit the pipe and filter at the weekend.
While I'm at it is there anything else alongside the GTA intake pipe that might benefit the car with regards to induction?
Ta

Re: GTA Intake Arrived, Remap Booked
You could remove the resonator boxes on the intake side. This will give you a bit more of an induction roar too
I've got a BMC CDA which I have replaced the airbox/filter with on my V6, but these are about £180 although do give you a couple of extra horses over the standard setup (enough to justify the price though? Thats debatable!)

Yeah, I planned to remove the resonator too.

I have done the same to my car buddy. I'm happy with it like that. The induction is spot on.

Re: GTA Intake Arrived, Remap Booked
Oh well remembered Bob.. I removed my cone from the airbox.. I don't think it made much difference though.
Try and see. Watch out the bolts havent rusted on top of the airbox. Also you may need to buy some jubilee clips as the existing ones on the intake pipes are fiddly.

What's the purpose of the cone?

Re: GTA Intake Arrived, Remap Booked
Fitted the GTA Intake, removed the cone and put in a new standard filter.
Car sounds a lot better and is a tiny bit more responsive.
Roll on the remap!

The cone forms part of the tuned intake system. Basically when the engine sucks in air it creates a negative pressure wave, this travels down the intake and gets reflected back down to the intake by the cone. This reflected pressure wave helps in filling of the cylinders.
The reason it is cone shaped is so that different parts of the cone reflect pressure waves at different RPM.
Its a bit like a tuned exhaust system, only in reverse, the pressure wave in an exhaust assist in emptying the cylinders.
I would leave it in. I tried my 156 with it removed and the car lost torque.

Re: GTA Intake Arrived, Remap Booked
I'll give it a week and then put it back in and see what it's like.

Re: GTA Intake Arrived, Remap Booked
The TS cone is a lot smaller in diameter at the entry point than the JTS cone. So you can't compare the two.
Some TS engines work well without the cone, some don't. So try it and see what is best for you.
Mine came out several years ago and is still out.

Re: GTA Intake Arrived, Remap Booked
I removed the BMC CDA from my TS and did the GTA intake upgrade and refitting of standard airbox yesterday. Reason: CDA needs cleaning. As usual a lot of work - undertray off, battery tray out etc. I also sprayed MAF with contact cleaner from Maplins. Too early to say about performance yet but GTA pipe is much quieter so far.
One question: I used the Gazza's parts list which includes spacer, washer etc. but could not find a comfortable hole in the chassis to screw in the support for the GTA pipe so had to secure with trusty cable tie in the end!
Can somebody post a pic or photo of the GTA intake pipe which shows the chassis hole it connects to please?
Chris

Re: GTA Intake Arrived, Remap Booked
I used a cable tie too. I couldn't find anywhere to screw in properly. Been like it for 6 months and is no problem.

Re: GTA Intake Arrived, Remap Booked
I used a cable tie on my 156 as well. The GTA pipe weighs hardly anything so I can't see a problem myself.
The reason I cable tied mine though was that if I had put a bolt in I would have had to remove the bumper for access.
