My new brakes - Galfer Extreme kit

Hi. I want to share with you some images of the new brake kit I got for my bella. Its Galfer Extreme kit, and came as a set consisting of discs, pads, brake fluid and anti vibration shims.

Galfer

Manufacturing quality seems much better than OEM components, I hope the discs will not rust as much. The aluminum disc centers look nice, match color of my calipers When the disc wears out it is enough to buy the rotors and these discs save some weight too (5,5kg vs 6,3kg OEM disc but who will notice the difference ).

Installation is the same as replacement of standard components, except carbon shims placed on the backside of the brake pads to reduce squeal.

And how do they brake? No idea yet The car stays in garage as now we have some wind storms here with a lot of water and fallen trees on the roads As soon as I drive them in, I will let you know

Hopefully this weekend I will properly heat them up :-) Manufacturer says the pads are not heat treated and I should make 15 consecutive brakings from 120 - 40 km/h and than give them 1 hour to cool down. Than they should be ready Seems fun

Yes they do, set for 145/146 1,4 TS has an order nr. 37.091.00. I got mine from a distributor in Czech Republic and complete set cost me about 450-460 EUR incl. postage. Your discs are smaller, 257mm, so maybe the set would be cheaper.

As I mentioned, I got them from Czech Republic. RENOVAK Kostelec nad Orlicí s.r.o. The web is unfortunately only in czech. In case you don't find any distributor closer, you can drop them email: renovak@renovak.cz
Or try to find some distributor closer to you:

Re: My new brakes - Galfer Extreme kit

After a week I fully tested the brakes under all conditions

Pros:
  • MUCH better braking power
  • you can hardly push them strongly enough to fade on a road. Maybe on a track, havent tried it yet...
  • very progressive
  • slower start of braking with a lot of feedback when braking softly but if you press the pedal harder they bite and hold
  • discs look good

Cons:
  • when braking really but really softly in traffic jams, when the pads only start to touch the discs they squeal softly. Under normal braking they are quiet
  • A LOT of brake dust. Silver wheels are covered with it only after 100 miles of normal driving....
  • questionable wear rate... cant comment this yet but a lot of dust probably means they will wear quickly

Well if you are really really interested, this could be doable :-) Some time ago one nice user of this website did the same favor for me.
But consider that first you have to pay about 20 EUR shipment from distributor to me and than shipment of 15kg parcel form Slovakia to UK what would really be at least 20 - 40 EUR (my guess). Better contact directly the czech distributor and discuss the direct shipment with him. You can use me a reference where you got his contact. If you need I can PM you his name and email....
