Alfa V6s

I would like to drop (sounds easy when I put it like that) a 3.2 GTA V6 into my 1986 series 3 GTV6.

I already have the donor GTA.

Obviously putting the newer transverse 24V unit in is going to take some work.

i would like to do the work without changing the actual car itself in anyway - no holes or cutting!

So... Thinking aloud... does anyone know if the heads from the 24V (transverse) would fit onto the 12V (longitude)? Is this possible?

Sounds like a mission. All the best with the project!

I may know someone that can help you, years ago the specialist/service dealer Alfarama that i use for my Alfa's did a Alfa GTV 6 with a 3.0 V6 24V engine from a 164, maybe they can help you.

I don't think its possible.. I've read walk-through of one of these conversions before and the guy completely swapped the engines in their entireity. If it was possible to swap the heads alone to get the benefit that would have made it so much easier. I could be wrong though.

But luckily, the engine blocks are essentially the same, you would need to get a few different mounting points welded in though. I think there's a guy on here putting a 24v V6 into a 75, he'd be a good person to talk to.

It will be awesome when its finished

Back on the road: Alfa 156 3.0 24v V6, Silver with red leather, Q2 diff, 17" GTA Teledials, headlights & inlet manifold, AutoDelta carbon intake,
SuperSprint exhaust, Dastek Unichip & FK coilovers - my 245bhp beast!

Gone but not forgotten: Alfa 156 2.4 JTD Veloce, Vela Blu, Angel 'mad map' & BMC CDA, Ferodo DS2500s - the fastest tractor in town!

Re: Alfa V6s

maybe ahmotorsports could help - they seem to be very involved with engine conversions and big bore engines

Re: Alfa V6s

When you say you have the donor GTA, do you just mean the engine itself or do you have a whole car that you are using as a donor car? Cause I could do with some GTA bits..

Re: Alfa V6s

Many many people have used 24v V6 engines in their 75, SZ, GTV6.
Very little changed to use it in transverse format, which is why it is such a pain to work on in the FWD cars.

Putting it back where it came from in a RWD car is close to being the simplest engine change you could do.

As an example of how little changed, the SZ (RWD) crankshaft is the same part as used in the 164 (FWD).

Re: Alfa V6s

Early 164 24v's will swap but the later one wi the ally "bracket" 'tween the cam belt and head won't. Found this out when I investigated rebuilding Dougie's super, sourced a gtv lump but wouldn't do so luckily found a pair of early heads for only £250.

GTV V6

Re: Alfa V6s

I had some suspension work done a while back by Alfaman Services - the guy who runs it, Eddie I think it was, has a GTV6 that he'd put the 3.2 engine into.
