TUT Re: My gtv needs to breath (air filter-intake)

A chap up my street fitted a aftermarket filter unit with new cold air intake hose and stuff , it has improved low down power but the emissions have gone through the roof , He wishes he'd left it as it was .... sorry no other info

Re: My gtv needs to breath (air filter-intake)

I've never heard of emissions going up drastically with a modified air-intake. I have a BMC CDA kit and my MOT emissions were very very low:

Fast Idle 3000rpm:
CO% 0.003 (permitted range 0-0.200)
HC ppm 1 (permitted range 0-200)
Lambda 1.004 (permitted range 0.970-1.030)

Natural Idle 600rpm
CO% 0.002 (permitted range 0-0.300)

Re: My gtv needs to breath (air filter-intake)

everyone raves about the bmc-cda and its the preferred choice! They cant all be wrong! Plently of threads on here about it and also over on the sportsalfa site. A lot of the other induction systems seem to blow the MAF so be careful it is a good idea to unplug the MAF and run the engine for the first ten min of the new filter without the maf connected - just incase the filter is over oiled. If u do go for an induction setup make sure its a closed system with good cold air feed or u will just suck hot air from the engine bay and go slower!

I agree fantom it must be something else causing this - faulty lambda or something to do with what he has done with the crank breather?
