Alfa 156 1.8 Petrol Tuning

Hi

I've recently bought myself a 156 1.8 Petrol and was wondering whether it's worth getting a remap and induction kit.

As it will cost me around £450 for the lot, I want to know if the benefits are worth the cost.

What difference will I notice from an additional 17 bhp and 19lb ft torque over standard?

Anybody got any experiences with same/similar model?

Thanks

Adam

Re: Alfa 156 1.8 Petrol Tuning

Q1. Where are you based....??

Also, I have tried a few different induction kits on my 1.8 and none made any noticeable different in performance.

I would spend £15 on induction and get a GTA intake pipe. Remove the resonator and that's sorted. You will get a slightly better throttle response.

Secondly I would use either Angel, Celtic or Red Dot for tuning. It depends what you want though.

I'm based in Manchester so Angel looks most preferable for the remap.

So £15 for a filter, which brand would you recommend? For K&N I'm looking at £40.
Also where's the best place to pick up a GTA Intake Pipe?

Re: Alfa 156 1.8 Petrol Tuning

Get the GTA intake from your main dealer. Order it. It's about £14.76

Use a standard filter. the K&N are worthless on our cars. Plus the oil can kill the MAF if you aren't careful.

I'd use Angel unless you plan to come to North London over the next couple of months.

It might be worth the price difference to drive down though? Especially if you join the AlfaOwner.com club, then you get 10% off at Red Dot, and 40% off brakes if you want to upgrade those as well (recommended)..

I am very impressed with Red Dot, after seeing the map they did on that 1.6 T.S.

Will the GTA Intake pipe fit on a 156 1.8 TS as I've been told it wont.

Re: Alfa 156 1.8 Petrol Tuning

I'll probably go down this route then at some point, just gotta get the parts and find the time to do the work.

Next job after that will be the remap I reckon.

Cheers for the help.

Re: Alfa 156 1.8 Petrol Tuning

Ordered the parts yesterday from main dealer.
It came slightly more that I thought mainly due to the spacers coming in a pack of 5 and the dealer not willing to seperate them.

Paid about £40 in total with a standard air filter.

Re: Alfa 156 1.8 Petrol Tuning

Bah, just found out that the dealership has to back order the parts, looking at 4-6 weeks lead time!

Might try a few more dealers.

Names & Numbers / Web addresses of any dealers that people use would be much appreciated.

Hey i put an BMC CDA kit to my 1.8 156 and i have found that it has made a mssive improvment in my cars driving ability and it makes the great sounding engine sound even better but it was a big job to get it done but i still did it myself i had to remove the whole airbox sytem but well worth the money

Good man

Got a BMC CDA on both my JTD and V6, they sound totally different but I noticed a great improvement on turbo spool-up time on the JTD, the V6 came fitted with a CDA when I bought it. It sounds lovely when you put your foot down, especially when in a tunnel or windows down on a narrow, high-walled country lane
