Sportcat for a JTD?

Out of curiosity, I was wondering if you can get a sport catalyser for a diesel engine. I have had a quick look on the internet and I cannot find a single sport cat manufacturer who does them for diesels, why is this? Don’t tell me it is because diesel is the fuel of Satan.

Re: Sportcat for a JTD?

You should get through an MOT without a cat on

Turbo should spool a bit faster without it

Re: Sportcat for a JTD?

Completely agree with Pud237.

I am not sure but i think that the catalytic converter in the petrol 147s is the same like the one in the JTD ones...probably it is the same thing with the 156s.

So you can get a sports cat for the petrol ones and fit it to JTD one....

But there is no point of doing that

Re: Sportcat for a JTD?

Thanks for the reply's - if the JTD can pass the MOT without one, then why does it have a cat?

Re: Sportcat for a JTD?

The cat is to keep the environment happy by reducing the harmful particles. I personally would get a fabricated 3" down pipe, decat and full stainless exhaust with only a back box. Will sound nice, and not as loud as you would think. You may hit your boost cut though, so a remap would be advisable. Should get good gains too

All cars registered after 1992 had to have a cat converter fitted from the factory, nothing wrong with taking it off after though, as long as it will still pass emissions test at MOT, which the JTD engines do unless something is wrong.

Re: Sportcat for a JTD?

I was running a full CY-box stainless system and scilenced decat from a v6 on my remapped 2.4 JTD

It made bugger all difference to sound, performance and MPG.

Re: Sportcat for a JTD?

Did you do the exhaust after you got it remapped? I could understand it making no difference in that was the case.

With a more free-flowing exhaust, I think I'm right in saying you should get lower temperatures in the exhaust system and be able to take the mapping further, providing thats the limiting factor in the first place..
